Quoting: Jumpanator
So far this season, Robertson > Dube. More production, three years younger, probably still has more to offer at the NHL level. However, Dube has already had success in the bigs so I guess it depends on what you value. I think the Flames should value potential over past production right now.
If the Flames are moving on from Dube (which I agree they should), why not bring in a guy that could maybe be better? Yes they are stacked with left shot forwards and should be targeting young defencemen, but you can never have enough talent.
A first round pick is still a first round pick. It could be a dud, it could be a franchise player. You can't win the lottery if you don't buy a ticket.
You're not getting any of Toronto's top prospects for Tanev. Maybe Niemela though.
While I agree that Tanev brings a lot of intangibles to the team, I am firmly in the retool camp and believe the Flames should be getting any value they can from their older players. Toronto has plenty of interesting prospects and are certainly willing to trade high picks, there's no chance two or three more seasons with Tanev gets Calgary closer to a cup than getting futures.
We don’t want Nick Robertson period, we already have a Small LW in Pelletier, who’s better, to fit on to the roster when he returns from his shoulder injury
Sure, Dube is struggling, but it’s on a Flames Team that is struggling overall, especially offensively at Even Strength and on the Power Play…. Dube has a better skill set, brings more size & grit than Robertson and kills penalties, so he’s superior and more useful than Robertson for sure, yet we’re gonna move on from him because of his cap hit and the fact others are emerging as good replacement players, specifically Zary & Pospisil, but also have Greer, Duehr & Coronato and not to mention Ben Jones, Adam Klapka and Honzek who will all be looking to make the lineup next season too…
If we get a Quality Player or NHL Ready C/RD Prospect for Tanev, fine, but if he’s willing to stay and extend, I’d do that before taking a late pick, unreliable/injury prone RD and overrated soon to be non-waivers exempt prospect like TOR Fans continue to throw at us
Picks after 20th overall are substantially less valuable than picks 1-20, so I don’t agree that a 1st is a 1st is a 1st
TOR has absolutely nothing of value they’re willing to part with. It’s all scraps and left over garbage they don’t want anymore in exchange for actual Quality NHL Players….
