Fixing our holes - explanation

Created by: RyanMclovin
Team: 2023-24 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 20, 2023
Published: Dec. 20, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Firstly I'm going to start off by saying I'm making a change not on cap friendly in releaving Dustin Schwartz of his duties and finding a replacement (Bakersfield condors current coach?). I'm not blaming our goalies entire issue on the coach but over his long tenure with the team all he's ever done is run goalies out of town, the proofs there. Moving forward I think we should address the trades one step at a time and analyze who would be a good fit at a good price to answer needs.
Trades
1.
EDM
The Blackhawks recieve both a first and Broberg plus sweetners to take on Campbell's full contract. This would allow the oilers a lot of space to go out and make meaningful moves at the deadline.
    CHI
    1. Broberg, Philip
    2. Campbell, Jack
    3. Gleason, Benjamin
    4. 2024 1st round pick (EDM)
    5. 2025 5th round pick (EDM)
    6. 2026 6th round pick (EDM)
    2.
    EDM
    1. Saros, Juuse ($1,000,000 retained)
    Additional Details:
This is assuming Nashville decides to bite on a Saros trade. I think the value is fair but feel free to let me know if I'm wrong, Nashville gets a massive futures haul for just Saros and only 1 million in retention.
    NSH
    1. Bourgault, Xavier
    2. Niemeläinen, Markus
    3. Pickard, Calvin
    4. 2025 1st round pick (EDM)
    5. 2025 3rd round pick (EDM)
    6. 2026 1st round pick (EDM)
    3.
    EDM
    1. Eberle, Jordan ($2,750,000 retained)
    Additional Details:
Seattle gets a second and a C level prospect aswell as a roster player to to give up and retain the final year of an expiring contract while they arnt looking at making the playoffs as is. Ontop of this Edmonton desperately needs a top 6 RW to play on Draisaitls line.
    SEA
    1. Janmark, Mattias
    2. Petrov, Matvei
    3. 2024 2nd round pick (EDM)
    4.
    EDM
    1. Tanev, Christopher ($1,500,000 retained)
    Additional Details:
Although trades between the two Alberta teams are rare I see this move as a benefit for both teams. Edmonton needs a top four shut down Dman that can play lots of minutes and Tanev fits that description. Calgary gets rid of an expiring player and agree to retain for the remainder of the season for two picks a roster player and a C level prospect.
    CGY
    1. Ceci, Cody
    2. Savoie, Carter
    3. 2025 4th round pick (EDM)
    4. 2026 2nd round pick (EDM)
    5.
    EDM
    1. 2024 3rd round pick (MTL)
    Additional Details:
In this hypothetical Edmonton trades away a lot of their picks and look to gain some back by shopping a talented young player (potential good third liner) that would most likely go to waste in their system.

swap broberg for holloway or akey. Chi has too many young LHD already, theyll likely have to trade 1 or 2 in the coming years.

This is going to go real bad when the other Hawks fans get here.

Most stacked positions in Hawks development pipeline: Left D and Goalie. So adding 2 LDs as part of the "incentive" to take on Campbell is a non-starter. And with the cache of picks the Hawks have a 5th and a 6th are not really adding anything of value. Need to completely rethink the prospects in this deal.

I don't really see how Lavoie returns that, he's waiver eligible and has already cleared waivers this season.

Any team could have claimed Lavoie for free off waivers a month ago... and passed. So why would he suddenly be worth a 3rd rd pick?

    I'm here!

I wanted to complain but @klassic you did a great job of covering my grievances.

I don't even know where to begin. So, I'll just say, CHI declines.

To reiterate, the last thing hawks need is more LD prospects and they have so many picks in the first 3 rounds that later round picks just don't add much value

Because he doesn't know much about Lavoie and just made up a value.
