There are always 2 teams involved in a trade, and both teams need to agree and be happy about the return.
In this case, Habs decline.
No insults, no numbers blocked, no denigration.
Just a polite decline.
From the Habs management perspective at least, they seem to have an extension in mind... unless they get a 1st round pick in return.
Trade deadline moves cost more to Cup chasers. Good teams that are unwilling to "pay up" usually don't get the players available - and don't win the Cup.
Tampa Bay has systematically traded their 1st round picks for the available player they targetted, even if they overpayed.
And they won 2 straight Cups and went to the final the following year.
