Isles decline. We are in 2nd place in the metro and have no reason to trade Nelson. Not to mention, it’s going to take more than that. With retention he runs a 1st + high end prospect. Johansen doesn’t have value

I don't think Kovacevic has enough market value to warrant the price it would take for Montreal to give him up.
It would take an overpayment or equivalent prospect of interest. Colorado isn't a good fit.
Kovacevic could be a shrewd pickup with an extra year due to his bargain cap hit, but it would likely be to a team with a current 2nd or offensive forward prospect.

I could pretty easily see him getting big offers once the tdl starts to heat up.

The pending UFA RD market is pretty weak.

Walker is essentially just a older smaller version of kovacevic who just on a bit of a heater. Guy who took till his mid 20s tp get a role on a non playoff team. Hes 29 and doesnt have 30 mins of post season icetime.

Arizpna might not be selling and even then at their current versions dumba and stecher arent better than kovacevic by any meaningful margin

Tanev is not the player he was years ago is always injured and will likely be at a price teams wont want to pay.

Kovacevic with that 2nd year of dirt cheap cap hit can slide in and give teams a top 6 rd and help them on the cap. Guys like Holl and that show that even bottom pair rd still make bank.

They might not be able to get a 2nd rpund pick but I could see it being a 2nd wprth of value. I could also easily see him being added to a bigger monahan trade.

The issue is that perception is a large factor in market value to GMs. Kovacevic doesn't have that "cache" around the league like a Chiarot or a Savard. His selling point is his cap hit and 3rd pairing reliability and he will largely be championed by scouts, not media or statisticians.
That limits his value to what Montreal is willing to accept vs his contributions next season and beyond. Buyers are going to be looking into guys with more reputation/experience, so that limits what they are willing to give up for what is likely a "plan C".
Sometimes a Tampa identifies and overpays for the right player regardless of perceived/market value, but those deals don't materialize as often.

We're already cycling defense this season so no real need for the add but the price isn't bad, just not the right team.
