Get the 2c now and look for a rhd in the draft

Created by: Howie
Team: 2023-24 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 25, 2023
Published: Dec. 29, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Jets should be looking at 2c that has offensive instincts as well as some term to not be a pure rental and not at an expensive price (ie 1st or top prospect). This leads me to old jets rival and former teammate of nino in grandlund. Obviously he has fallen off from where he's been and basically dumped to sjs. He is at a 5m cap hit for this year and next which fits perfectly with the the window for the young guys coming in and actually making an impact. We can get 50% retained or include a player like schmidt but schmidt seems less likely

Sharks need Granlund more than the 2024 3rd. Not saying he's worth more overall, but Sharks can easily afford his cap hit and desperately need his skills. Maybe next year, at last year of contract, but this year I think you'd need to overpay a bit

The second trade looks promising.
I think Logan Stanley will be a great addition to the Calgary Flames, in my opinion.
Do you guys agree or disagree?

If Granlund is your 2C…..
i think you’ll still be looking for a 2C

Granlund isn’t a 2C and isn’t what we need
For that return, be better to keep Stanley for depth.

Jets fans need to stop with this not wanting to trade a 1st or top prospect crap…. Our time is now… you want to win…pay the price.
Jets have needed a proper, stable, consistent 2C for years and a top pairing RHD since Buff left.
Personally, all picks are available and the only prospects I wouldn’t trade are Lambert and Salomonsson

This is the time to go all in, and swing for the fences. The prospect pool is deep enough, and with all the extensions signed the last three months, this team is going after the Stanley Cup. The team can sacrifice the 1st, and a prospect, while still nurturing some prospects. Winnipeg has Chibrikov, Lucius, Barlow, Lambert, and McGroarty as the top guys in the forward prospect pool that can get them a better 2C than Granlund.

I like the thought of adding Granlund, think he'd cost more though, maybe swap Barron in for Gus. As of now Granlund is having a better season then Lindholm is, not sure I'd want to give up a 1st+ for a rental considering the Jets issues with attracting talent.

There is no top pairing RHD available, likely not much for 2nd pair RHD available either, not sure who's an available 2C either.

No top rhd available and frankly Lindholm is too expensive as a rental as jets have years ahead to look at as well. Helle and scheifele are here 7 years after this one still need to try and have a competitive team those years as well, we're not the pens in terms of selling 1sts every year to cup chase

Not many 2c even available and most are going to cost a lot. Shaping up to be a sellers market so would you rather trade what I did for 2 years of granlund or 1st chibrikov 2nd and Gustafsson for a rental Lindholm who has less points? Obviously they should look to improve but spending assets like it's candy bc were doing good this year isn't smart as the assets we have are more valuable long term than a Lindholm or Monahan for 4 months

Exactly we need to do what we did last year which is funny as all of us were calling for the all in push (Chychrun, schmaltz, meier) last year. We need a nino or namestnikov type move where we get a player that wants to play and has an impact on the team. Ideally a nino namestnikov hybrid player that's a center

Trading a first for a rental this year is a mistake. Jets need a dman this draft. Just because we're doing good doesn't mean we need to trade every asset on this year. We have a window of about 3 years with the Hellebuyck and scheifele deals being their best and connor under contract. The market just doesn't support trading a 1st for what we need as there is no top pair rhd and all the 2c aren't that massive of improvement on what namestnikov has brought. Sure lindholm over namestnikov all day but is the difference between them a 1st top prospect and more no thanks. I'd rather hold some assets for the offseason and next year to readdress the needs at that time

Any Dman we get this draft won’t be helping this team until late into Scheif and Helles extensions… we need D help now… we are past the build through the draft phas3 and into the win now phase… our 1st this year and next only help us win now through trade.
Namesnikov isn’t a 2C… at best he’s a 3rd liner… hell, I’d move him so I could use his cap elsewhere… he is the mediocre solution this team, and it’s fans, has been falling back on for years… perfect Chevy style player… not good enough to get us over the hump, but good enough to help get us into the first round and satisfy fans and owners.
