This isn't about winners and losers... this is about what both teams are trying to accomplish.

For Calgary to be competing right now... it's next to stupid. You're selling: get the tank going ASAP. There's REALLY REALLY good forwards at the top 4 this year. Celebrini, Eiserman, and Demidov are all franchise altering options.

Get rid of Lindstrom, Markstrom, Hanifin, and Tanev as soon as possible, secure your bottom 3, and write off the damn year.

And here, Toronto gets a goaltender who can at least hold the fort.

It is a seller's market for goaltending, but Markstrom is somewhat of a risk after his year last year, which doesn't necessarily give him great value. But hey, if you disagree with the trade, tell everyone whom Toronto should send over for him.

Ha funny so give the leafs a starting goalie that they cant afford, get nothing back so you can tank.the flames could still tank by getting the leafs 1st pick for markstrom.Leafs fans are ya jesus?

If the Leafs are dangling a 1st pick for a goalie, do you think Markstrom would be the target?

no because they cant afford his 6 mil contract,THEY HAVE NO MONEY.but marky was a vezina finalist 2 yrs ago and is a legit starting goalie.conroy isnt giving him to the leafs for nothing so they can tank.and thats what your ridiculous trade proposed.marky will probably end up in new jersey, but the flames will actually get something for him,not this silly deal.

the money thing is irrelevant... since Klingberg's injury, they have money, and it's a less than 3M difference vs the 4M off the books

And Jersey is gonna chase Gibson, who's the superior option, and the two are a really good match.

That leaves you Carolina (no cash unless inj happens) and Colorado (no cash unless inj happens), and Buffalo, who wants a 1 year solution

Other possibility is Detroit, but nobody knows what the hell Yzerman is thinking

Now it's not to say none of these teams can make the trade, but they're all going to wait.

Now Calgary's options are sell low to NJ at salary retained, and even then, NJ uses that as leverage to get Gibson's price down, or sell a little higher to Toronto who needs a goalie fix pretty fast with Woll still out.

I don't think this trade in particular will happen, but I do think it "SHOULD" be entertained. Remember that it BENEFITS the Flames to get rid of this guy, their goal is to get as much as they can and I don't think it's going to be a 1st round pick. Will it be Abruzzese? Who the hell knows? Could be a lot of different players, but at best, a 2nd rounder + other minor transactions

Do you read capfriendly the leafs have no cap space for a 6m goalie, and the flames arent retaining, like they would on Tanev who is a ufa.Markstrom is a better goalie than Gibson and doesnt get injured.Sell higher to toronto? this trade you proposed is a silly homer trade that only a leaf fan could imagine.and yes the flames should get as much as they can for Marky which in your trade is nothing.so why are you arguing with me about a trade that now you realize wont happen.its simple Marky has value and your leaf fantasty trade offers nothing.

Selling low on players is not the way to do it.

I'm not a Leafs fan, and I'm trying to "discuss" and "be diplomatic" but someone replies to you and you're being acidic

... and we can agree to disagree on Markstrom being better than Gibson. I don't like goalies that singlehandedly kill my season like he did to Calgary last season. GMs feel the same. Calgary failed to make playoffs last year because mr vezina finalist or whatever couldn't even play like a backup goaltender. Yet you want a competitive team to commit to that for another two years. No. ONLY if the GM knows him and ONLY if they're in trouble

I'm a Devils fan and I don't want the Devils to get Markstrom. It makes... however... sense for his former GM to trade for him if... IF he has faith in him.

Listen guy you tried to make a proposal of a backup goalie at best, samsonov ,that has a terrible contract, and a couple bags of pucks, for a starting goalie who 2 yrs ago was a 2nd allstar and 2nd in the vezina voting.the whole flames team had a bad yr last yr,they couldnt stand arrogant old darryl sutter.Marky has been arguably the best player they have this yr,hes gave them a chance most nights. You started off by trying to con me by saying its not about winners and losers its about what there trying to accomplish.and basically the flames should just give Marky away and take a bad contract and bit pieces,so they can tank and get a higher pick.GMs feel the same huh? I will tell you that they understand Marky is a true number 1 goalie. Ha funny i think he may end up in jersey because they have cap space, unlike your leaf proposal, where they have none, but you wanted to argue about that as well.the leafs offered more for Zadorov than the canucks but needed the flames to retain to fit his 3mil in,the flames werent retaining.im guessing you stayed up all night dreaming this ridiculous trade up that makes no sense for anyone.so i probably hurt your feelings by being honest, but sorry this ones really silly.im sure you will need the last word but i am done.we will talk when Marky is starting for the devils.but unless he goes with huberdeau to get rid of him, for meier and palat, there will be real value coming back for him.

The pinnacle of professionalism you want on any hockey team

It's funny how NJ can afford Markstrom's contract with Hamilton out but the Leafs can't afford Markstrom's while Klingberg's out.

Zad went to Vancouver because believe it or not, he wanted to go there. He admitted this himself.

But that's fine, you predict Markstrom will end up in NJ and I predict he'll end up in Calgary (because of inactive GMing) or in Toronto because of his connection to Treliving. If he's in NJ, I'll call the move stupid, but I'll eat the humble pie.
