Due to the cap being year based, wouldn’t Pinto’s cap be double if he signs halfway through the season?

Brannstrom at wing is an interesting experiment. Beats him being stuck in a shut down roll.

Is this a real thing or a one off for EB?

he was great at forward, so i hope he agrees to stay, but i think it was more so last minute decision with having Chabby back in the line up. I hope to see more of it.

Actually, I am pretty sure that since he didn't sign before November 1st he is ineligible to play the rest of this year. It was why the Leafs had to cave to Marner when he refused to sign

Edit*** sorry it is December 1st

Not if he did not sign a contract by Dec 1st. See signing deadline in link

Since he was suspended without a contract, the nhl made an exception and he will be able to play, but his cap hit is gonna be double his actual salary, si they can’t even afford him

I see, I didn't realize they made an exception (IMO they shouldn't have cause it was his own actions that lead to the suspension but that's neither here nor there then lol) my apologies for the comment then

Yeah, they definitely shouldn’t have but IMO it won’t change a thing since they can’t afford him

It wasn't an exception. It was because of his RFA classification (10.2c). Deadline didn't apply to him with/without suspension.

Regarding salary, his cap hit will be whatever salary he signs for. See https://www.capfriendly.com/faq#increased-caphit (scroll to bottom of page). I doubt they will include a signing bonus, so basically whatever his base salary is. If it was a multi-year deal, sure, there would be some doubling (like there was with Nylander). But he's likely signing for the league minimum, for one year, with no SB. Note that he won't be paid the full base salary/cap hit, as he's missed half of the season already. So there's maybe the "doubling" some people are thinking of.

Staios said yesterday that they'll be able to accommodate him and his cap hit, even if they don't make a trade. So they can afford him. Considering he's already at the facilities, getting ready to come back, doesn't seem like he's going to be playing hardball on contract negotiations.
