How the TDL should go

Created by: The_Rocket
Team: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 3, 2024
Published: Jan. 3, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Step 1: trade away Myers with double retention. Myers double retained brings his cap hit down to 1.5 million, and his salary down to 250k, pro-rated over the remaining days of the season after the trade. No doubt there will be interest in him by teams looking to add size to their back end without breaking the bank. I imagine he could garner as much as a 3rd (plus a 5th going to a 3rd team to help retain) but actual return doesn’t matter for this AGM, so I am just trading him to ANA as a demo.

Step 2: Canucks need to the obviously replace Myers, and will need to do so with a defensemen who costs considerably less.

Step 3: the glaring hole in the top 6. Canucks need a winger bad. Some one who can play with miller or petey, can play PP2, and has at least a somewhat competent defensive profile.

I’m not a fan of using our last spot for Fabbro, when we could use it to get a return for Barrie. Also, I’d say it’d be fairer Vancouver added a 4th.

If you've gotta move Myers send him to Nash add another pick to the Brzustewicz trade and don't bother retaining on either Myers or Fabbro

Don't think that gets you Guentzel. Also, Myers is a better player than Fabbro.

i think the canucks could get actual value for myers with double retention. i didn't put anything on the trade here but i think they could get a 3rd for myers if they retain

agree to disagree here. Myers is a 3rd pairing dman with size and mobility. canucks just added zadorov who does it better.

fabbro is an actual 2 way defenseman with better outlets and gap control

I don’t see Anaheim having interest on Myers.
The last trade decline because Hunter is going to be a future Dman for the Canucks, and trading him is a big mistake.

Then I don't think Nashville would retain on Fabbro because of their situation with retention spots. I'm sure they'd prefer to save it to get more value from trading someone like Barrie

Fair enough. This trade reeks of trading Forsling for Clendenning to me. Fabbro is a meh 6/7th dman. I don't want to overhype Brzstuweczich but he has the potential to be much better than that. I think Juulsen is just as good as Fabbro now.

That doesn’t come close to touching guentzel… 2 years ago Tanner Jeannot and his 14 points in 57 games got a meh prospect, 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5. You think Guentzel (17 goals and 42 points in 36 games) is going to get a meh prospect 1 &2? Going to have to start with a legit roster plus more picks…

any time anyone ever posts a trade on Cap friendly people bring up the most insanely lopsided and poorly aged trades as a comparable as if there aren't 100 other trades you can point to that are more in line with the value received

I like Brzustewicz too, but a 3rd rounder doesn't get Fabbro. He's an RFA, former 1st round pick coming into his prime and putting up solid analytical results. I think if he gets dealt its for a better prospect or is more of a hockey trade.

brzustewicz obviously has 1st rounder value, even though he was taken in the 3rd round. he leads the ohl in scoring and leads the entire chl in assists. he is in his D+1 season and is a right shot defenseman.

this is the equivilent of a 1st adn a 4th for fabbro at 50%
