The Grzelcyk trade is bad for both teams. The Hawks are moving away from undersized defensemen and are loaded on the left side. Grzelcyk has been good for Boston so why sell low?

Better idea

1. Keep Ullmark

2. Sign Hanifin in July since according to credible reporting, GM’s believe he is signing in Boston

3. Keep Lysell and your picks

Revisit Ullmark in the offseason if you want extra draft capital

I could see Lysell and a 2026 2nd for Monahan and a 2024 2nd from Colorado. My guess is there would need to be some retention. I just don’t trust that Monahan will stay healthy

I wouldn't move Lysell for Monahan - I don't trust him to stay healthy either

Why? Ullmark is a good goalie, can't deny that but why would we pass up on a combined 1st + 2nd + 2 3rds worth of value to add a 4th goalie to the roster? Even if we traded Allen and Primeau the value we would be losing from Monahan and Savard for Ullmark outweighs the benefits of having Ullmark and Montembeault

Don't think Boston needs either player. They need a true 1C not more C depth and they do need defensive depth but won't pay that price to get it.

I don't even know if I want Hanifin to sign tbh. Lohrei's playing like a top 4 defenseman as is and I'm not too fond of having McAvoy, Lindholm and Hanifin all making 6mil+ when there's other more significant holes than need filling (i.e. top 6 forwards)

I was just saying why would we want to acquire Ullmark for them when we can get a 1st and 3rd for Monahan and a 2nd and 3rd for Savard in separate trades, which is more valuable to the Habs right now than adding another goalie

Hawks obviously decline. Why would they trade away a pick for a pending UFA?
