Not getting a single elite piece back for Saros should get Barry fired. Add in retention and just makes it even worse

Goalies never get a return like that and Saros has not been a world beater this season. You aren't getting a return this good. Woll is younger, cheaper and has better numbers this season.

Minten is a stud. He was just captain of team Canada at the WJC. Niemela won WJC dman of the tourny in 2021 and is having a great year in the AHL and a 1st round pick and a 3rd.

This is a very big package.

Leafs pass on this though.

In a shocking turn of events, a Habs fan comes out of the blue to say two highly touted Leaf prospects are not good despite literally everyone in the hockey world saying otherwise.

If you removed Minten, I would consider this. But I am still leaning towards not blowing our load on a goalie. I would much rather spend those assets on a top dman.

Devils decline. They need a better goalie than Lankinen.

Goaltenders are the most important position in hockey. The leafs would be deadly with saros in net.

Devils fans don’t seem to want to give up the assets necessary to acquire an elite goalie.

It is also the most volatile position. Granted, Saros has proven to be one of the most consistent guys over the last few years. But it is a very volatile position.

A lot of teams are just going lower cap in goal and trying to find the cheaper guys who are playing well right now.

Don't get me wrong, if you remove Minten from this package and keep the rest as is, I wouldn't hate it. Saros is a stud.

But I do think the Leafs should spend those assets on a stud dman.

value seems pretty lite on the first trade considering youre retaining 50% on Saros AND throwing in trenin

Niemela is looking like a 5-6 dman at this point

Minten is good but is still only projected to be a middle six winger, not elite and sadly will likely go down as one of the worst captains that team Canada has ever had.

Neither is ranked in the top 50 prospects and neither is considered to have elite (top line potential) potential.

Your 1st will only have a 50% chance of even playing in the league and even less of a chance of becoming elite. And Samsonov is in this deal, who as I'm writing this is playing like a cap dump, not considered one yet but any trade negotiations for him right now won't be positive.

It's a big pile of maybes and pretty goods, no elites and Nashville turns it down pretty easily. It also gets beat pretty easily by another team

Heaps of your anti leaf bias on this one sir. Heaps of it.

Minten has a ceiling of being an elite defensive 2nd line centre. I think he at worst is elite defensively and has a few 30 goal 60 point seasons while being in the Selke conversation. His floor is still Selke calibre defence, leadership and 40+ points as a 3C. That's a very good prospect and one I wouldn't move unless it really was worth it. A soon to be 30 year old goalie looking for a massive pay raise next season when sporting a 900 save percentage isn't worth this package. Pretty much no goalie is. They are voodoo

I wouldnt Saros is bad this year. But everyone seems to be on the Marky train to NJ, even tho he has a sick 2m bonus in the final 2yrs.

Would you say that same thing about Owen Beck? Because he's basically the same prospect. I like them both but thinking Minten is a future Phil Danaut AS HIS FLOOR is quite the take. I think he's a good prospect but for a guy who says my bias is showing I'd have to say you need to look in the mirror

Even if NSH were content with a 1st and Minten for Saros, the retention, Trenin, and having to take Samsonov's cap hit would be worth more than Niemelä and a 3rd three drafts from now.

I like Trenin would pay a 2nd for him, I’d pay a 1st for the retention, and Casey for Saros at 5 mill is a good deal. Saros is a guy I trust to be able to carry me to a cup.

So he said middle 6 player, you’re correcting him and saying middle six player. He says not top line elite quality and you clearly agree and so does the rest of the hockey world. Good but not elite prospect and again, hockey world ranks have him outside of that although he’s the top guy in the leafs system it doesn’t mean he’s close to being on par with other franchise’s top 3 prospects. I’m sure you will look past any leafs bias to agree with that. So where exactly is this habs bias you speak of? Or do you just hate when a habs fan speaks on behalf of leafs players/prospects?

Heavily overrating the floor of a guy who isn’t even dominating the OHL 2 years after being drafted
