He's our next captain. Our ask would be Barzal.

That contract would warrant a 1st, 2nd and 3rd on an offer sheet compensation, which Van would definitely match, you're right. And I don't think Van would do that trade. Horvat is a centrepiece that Van is building around so the only way I see him being traded is for another centrepiece type of player, not a package deal.

    Offer Sheet Compensation : 5.5x7 = 38.5 ; 38.5/5 = 7.7

    7,700,000 requires a 1st, 2nd, 3rd round pick

The thing with Horvat is that he's exceeding expectations every season. Not by magic or coincidence, but disciplined pursuit of every opportunity to improve his value. Nothing keeps him down.

I am open to trading Horvat, but you would not imagine what it would take me to say yes if I were actually GM. It would start with directly comparable young C prospect and add from there for the benefit of acting like a time machine and covering the risk returning prospects don't pan out.

I understand this trade was a stretch as it is, but I'm trading for his rights prior to signing. Therefore not exactly.

It does not change that what you wrote was incorrect...
