Addressing RW need

Created by: Coachchippy
Team: 2023-24 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 7, 2024
Published: Jan. 7, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Chytil will reportedly be back in the US by the end of the month. Rangers should pull a Kucherov type move and keep him on LTIR until playoffs start, at which point he rejoins the lineup. RW depth is still the #1 problem with this team. Kakko is fine on the first line but I think we need a weapon like Tarasenko for the playoffs. And contrary to popular belief Tarasenko was one of our best forwards in the playoffs last year and would've continued to contribute if our core guys didn't ghost.

That GM isn't very good. The Panthers have no first or second round picks this year. No first round picks until 2026 actually. It's a waste of draft capital to do that if you don't need to

Right but it goes back to the fact that if you want him you are also going to have to make an offer that moves the needle. I don’t think he returns a first even at 50% retained for the record, but a future second is more than reasonable for both teams given the quality of player involved

Lol, the GM is BFF with the owner, he ain't getting fired for not trading Tarasenko for a 4th, which is what, a player with a 1% chance of making the NHL?

Sens tell Tarasenko NYR aren't offering enough, so either he waives for another contender offering more, or he can finish the year with this team. Who blinks first?

Why not? I don't think we should've ever let him walk. He was fantastic for us and had nothing to do with the Rangers miserable playoff failure last year.

He did virtually nothing. I might be in the minority but him and Kane proved their worth when NJ kicked us out last year. They were nowhere.

Senko will have 3 teams. Islanders are one of them and the more likely destination

Craig Smith. TJ Brodie. Alec Martinez. Casey Cizikas. Marcus Foligno. Mattias Ekholm. Gustav Nyquist. Johnny Hockey. JG Pageau. Jacob Slavin. Ben Chiarot. Andrew Copp. Josh Anderson. Andreas Athanasiou. Brett Kulak. Erik Gustafsson. Devon Toews. Tyler Motte. Juuse Saros. Drake Batherson. Michael Bunting. Igor Shesterkin. Sam Lafferty. Nick Paul.

But yes, a 4th round pick is useless.

Maybe GM being BFF with the owner is why the Sens are the bottom of the league right now when they were expected to make the playoffs this year and give the East a problem. Maybe Ottawa would be in better shape if they focused on winning and doing what's best for the franchise, than hanging out braiding each others hair playing Chel and making poor decisions for the team (such as letting a good player walk for nothing instead of taking a good prospect and pick).

But we'll see what happens.

I think if people were expecting him and Kane to be "Those Guys" then yeah it is a little disappointing but I always thought they were brought in as supplemental pieces for the real "Guys" (Kreider, Panarin, Zibanejad, etc)

So if 2/3 of the Real Guys did their jobs instead of a combined 1G 5A in 7 games (obviously talking about Panarin and Zbad, Kreider did his job) I think that Tarasenko and Kane combined 4G 6A in 7 games is looked on a lot more favorably. But that's just my 2 cents

To bring in washed elite scorers to be utilized as supplementary players is like using a burnt piece of toast to make a PB&J. You’re better off using players well-suited for those roles that can play up to that ability with better skating and speed like Gourde or Barbashev for example. Kane and Tarasenko slowed our team down and added to the defensive issue for our forwards. Drury needs to recognize that issue and add forwards that will be additions rather than an Achilles heel that top teams will look to exploit like NJ did.

The owner took over during training camp. The GM officially became GM last week.

They haven't had much of a chance to do much, beyond parting ways with the old GM and coach. GM has yet to sign or trade any player on this roster. Seems a bit foolish to blame him for the follies of the previous regime.

I definitely will blame him for follies if he turns down a decent offer for Tarasenko and lets him walk away for nothing in the summer, just because the decent offer wasn't up to his unrealistic standards. And as a fan, you should hold him accountable for decisions like that instead of just excusing it and absurdly saying that he doesn't deserve to be fired because he is BFF with the owner.
