He's also on a team that's scoring 2.00 goals per game. His production is a product of his garbage team. It's clear you haven't actually watched him play. If the priority is Ovie's goal record, he's not going to get it without a proper two-way center and a playmaker. The money and brand value will be insane if he gets the record - WSH is thinking that more than competing for the Lord Stanley.

Couture had a great season last year, this year if he is able to show that he still has it, he could be an asset. Great two-way play and ability to make his lineys better. The reality is that WSH has barely any assets to move. He has three more years left his deal after this - Ovi two, one extra perhaps to reach the record. When Ovi era ends, they can start rebuilding.

They have the cap space to do both of these deals and still sign a top 6 forward in the off season.
