I cannot imagine Tampa does that.

Also you barely changed anyone's role

No chance Tampa Bay trades Cirelli straight up for Mitts. Much less adding another piece. Easy decline for Tampa.

I was making an equally unlikely trade as a comparison.

No, not “equally” at all
Mitts outproduces Cirelli, so it’s at least in the realm of possible, should Tampa decide they need more offense over Cirelli’s defense

There’s no debate at all that could be made for your stupid proposal

Not to mention, I think there’s a decent chance that Casey Mittelstadt signs a cheaper contract than Cirelli got. I don’t know if I make this trade if I’m buffalo.

I’d consider it,
but mostly bc Cirelli brings a skill set to the table that we could use being a good 2way center
Problem is that his offense has declined to the point that his Cap hit at $6.25mil is an overpayment

But still, bc of his skill set it’s worth considering

Looking at his career numbers, he’s never had a 50 point season. He’s been hovering around 30-40 points a year for the last few, and right now it looks like he might have trouble getting to 40 points this season. $6 million a year is probably double what that production is worth, and he hasn’t been in consideration for the Selke for some time. Mitts’s defensive game isn’t so much worse that it would be worth it. He’s been coasting on his reputation from the cup years. On another team he would be an overpaid disappointment.

Good points
But like i said, Cirelli is worth CONSIDERING
Never said we should do it
And i did also point out that he’s overpaid & doesn’t produce much offensively

I think even Tampa would like a do over on that contract. He’s still a very useful player, but that contract is like a noose you wrap around your team. Unless he is perennially in the Selke conversation, as well as bringing physicality, which is not his game, I don’t think there’s a team that wants him at that price tag.

He’s had a couple “down” years in terms of Selke voting
This coincided with seasons in which he was injured
So idk what to think….
bc we really could use a good defensive Center in our top9

I agree that we could use a good defensive center. But if he’s going to be a $6 million man, he needs to be so good defensively he’s earning Selke votes on the regular, and putting up around 50 points, or he’s a 60 point man you can count on for your penalty kill, who also wins face offs, and I’m talking about being the best face off guy on your team. Right now he’s falling short of those credentials for a $6 million man.

He pretty much does “earn Selke votes on the regular” though
Last year, he finished 26th, but he was hurt & missed almost a third of the season, so that explains that imo
The year before, he finished 5th in Selke voting
3yrs ago was the Covid shortened season, & he finished 20th in the voting- but I’m not making too many judgements for anyone in that wacky season
The 2 years before that, he finished 4th in Selke voting & 11th (as a rookie)

So he does have a track record of being one of the best defensive forwards in the league

And he doesn’t hit the 50-60point threshold for you,
but for his career he plays at a pace of over 40pts/season

There’s no doubt in my mind that he’d help our team
It’s just a matter of whether or not we’d be willing to “overpay” him by a million or 2 dollars

Maybe there’s better options?
But i wouldn’t outright dismiss him as an idea like u are

Again, not saying I’d do it for sure,
but i think he’d help
