First of all, Freddie was medically cleared before Christmas, he's expected back before the end of this season. Second, Grubauer hasn't been good since he was in Colorado. That deal makes no sense. Don't touch that deal, especially give up a 1st to take it. Absolutely not. For Zub, I don't like losing Pono, but Zub does make this team a lot better. I'd consider it. I'd prefer it be someone like Suzuki or Rees than Pono though

I was using the "goalies are voodoo" approach to upgrade the 1st here in the Kraken trade and to get Ottawa to bite for a potential Zub trade.

I wouldn't touch that Grubauer deal for 3 1sts. He's unsuable, and even retained like this, he makes almost 5 mil.

Zub's right-handed, is signed for 3 more seasons past this one, and is a better natural fit for Pesce's spot than Chychrun is. I would prefer Zub over Chychrun.

Ottawa declines.

We are not signing Chatfield to 3.2 million x 4.

And Grubauer vetoes the trade to Carolina, so Seattle's 1st wouldn't be available to us.

Hard pass.

Would Grubauer veto going to the Canes? Not so sure about that.

He would have to move his family across America and find an affordable place to live.

And sell his old place.

In any case, Ottawa is not signing Chatfield to 3.2 million x 4.

Hard pass.

Yes, but Grubauer has a NTC.

He wouldn't want to.

In any event, 3.2 million x 4 is a massive overpayment for Chatfield.

And that's what the OP is expecting us to do.

3.2 isn't an overpayment considering how he's been with the Canes for the last year and a half. He's become a well above-average NHL defenseman and his style of game transfers very well

It only appears that way because Chatfield is playing for a Cup Contender.

As JFK once said, "a rising tide lifts all boats".

Chatfield only averages 15 minutes in TOI per game for Carolina.

He is 27 and has never earned more than league minimum in his life.

3.2 million x 4 is an overpayment and Ottawa is not paying it.

Hard pass.

"He is 27 and has never earned more than league minimum in his life."- Late bloomers are a thing (Just asking Michael Bunting) and sometimes it takes a while for guys who are not top prospects to get a chance

"Chatfield only averages 15 minutes in TOI per game for Carolina."- That's only because he has a future HOFer and Brett Pesce in front of him.

He's been very good when asking to fill holes on the defensive roster like when he had to play 1LD for 5 or 6 games because Slavin was out with UBI.

Chatfield can have 1.1 million x 2 from Ottawa.

If it doesn't work out, his cap hit can be buried in the minors.
