I think you're giving up way to much for Eakin ...
Hagelan - 2 cups, world class speed and PK skills, good for 35pt, at 28 yrs old ... He's basically even value for Eakin, unless we're talking deadline deal. Then Hagelan gets far more for his 2 cups.
Pouliot - No other defender close to being NHL ready for the Pens so Pens D depth falls to nothing ... Add in McNabb (1yr to UFA) or Schmidt (RFA) or keep Pouliot, but Vegas has to many Dman already under contract.
2nd round pick - Kruger, who has a few cups, was given to Vegas and they traded him for a 5th. Methot traded for a 3rd and weak prospect. But Eakin is worth all this??
7th for a 6th ... still more going to Vegas?
Eakin (retain 500-800k) and McNabb/Schmidt ...for... Hagelan, Kuhnhackl/Archibald/Simon, and a 4th/5th/or 6th ... anything more would be to much and you shop elsewhere.
*McNabb is 25, physical and could be our replacement to Cole if we can't or choose not to resign him next year. Both he and Cole will be UFA, but McNabb is the better age to sign a 4 year deal with, and should come slightly cheaper. If you can resign both, even better. McNabb is not worth Cole today as he's not been an NHL regular who's won 2 cups. He's more like Cole at the time we traded for him.
*Schmidt (an RFA) should come a little cheaper (allowing us to have more to resign Cole, Hornqvist, Rust, etc) and is at least equal to, if not slightly better, than Maatta, who becomes expendable, allowing us to shop him for depth or to upgrade another position. Maatta has more value on another team who can't attract a D to sign a long term deal like he is signed to, at his age, at his skill and experience level.
I like Korpikoski but not at $2.5m, rarely playing full seasons, at 31, and his point production. We have wingers who can come in at entry level and put up his points. I'd rather get a guy who plays C and W who can fill in for injury or help with defensive and PK faceoffs. Which is why it's nice to make Maatta expendable and not to over pay for Eakin.
