Someone the jets should look at

Created by: Howie
Team: 2023-24 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 15, 2024

Description
The jets are a team that makes real smart moves and trades no one sees coming like Stastny at the deadline. The jets are doing amazing this year and should be buyers but who is someone they could get? Lindholm would be a great option but he's the mainstream guy everyone looks at. This may not be a player even available but matches the chevy approach.

Pavel Buchnevich is the guy that comes to mind. Stl looks to be in a retooling phase and could cash in on Buchnevich with the term he has. Top 6 forward that's around ppg plays pp and pk and not ideal but can play center but his faceoffs are about on par with perfetti. Still could be a great option as a 2 year rental and leaves when barlow, Lambert, mcgroarty are ready.

Obviously for a trade the main untouchables is the top 6 (perfetti the main one that may be desired but not for buch), Lambert, mcgroarty, Barlow, solomonsson as the prospects
Trades
WPG
  1. Buchnevich, Pavel
Additional Details:
Assuming jets aren't on his 12 team no trade list or willing to waive. Idk if this is enough/available so lmk as I feel like buch is an intriguing option for teams to inquire about
STL
  1. Chibrikov, Nikita
  2. Gustafsson, David
  3. 2024 1st round pick (WPG)
  4. 2025 3rd round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
I feel like chibrikov has surpassed lucius in terms of value. Could be swapped but chibrikov in his first year in the ahl has 25 points in 31 games and Lucius only 13 points in 17 games with the injuries he's had. Gustafsson is a roster player that is still young with team control. 1st this year could be 25-32 but gives stl options at the draft like last year.

I am not familiar with these Jet prospects, So I won't act like i know whether or not the value of this is fair. There are two reasons I don't think this would work.
1. I think the Blues will want high end D prospect in a Buch trade. Don't really need any more forwards and desperately need D.
2. The Blues are too close to a playoff spot to be trading to a divisional team in my opinion.

Blues decline. They have a lot of forward prospects to Chibrikov isn't someone we would target. We would like a defensive prospect who has top 4 upside and I don't see that in this package.

Winnipeg is a better team without Pavel Buchnevich.

Fair enough just saw some parallels to Stastny a couple years ago. Jets don't have that high end dman prospect best is heinola or salomonsson which aren't going to be insane nhl dman just solid top 4 options. Chibrikov could be the next buch he's really looking like a great middle six guy real soon. He's the jets 4th best prospect in my eyes and could really boom with stl as there would be a more clear path than he has here.

Could add heinola to the package as well chibrikov is the jets 4th best forward prospect that could really boom. He's only behind lambert, McGroarty and barlow. He's a rookie in the ahl at 20 with 25 points in 31 games which is insane for a player that hasn't played in NA especially at his age

Is it necessary for Winnipeg to afford a guy like Pavel Buchnevich?
In your opinion?

The Blues are not trading Buch to a division rival, man. It would take another they can't refuse, a la Oates for soon to retire Federko.

Jets need to add this deadline and jets frequently add a player that is off the radar (Stastny from stl) and he is a great overall player that plays pp, pk, great defensively, sure the faceoffs might not be great and better suited as a winger but even then he's a great option that has 2 years.

Stastny was the main comparison that came to mind. The jets are going to be buyers and typically get players people don't even know are available. Jets could add heinola as a dman with top 4 upside. Inner division trades aren't impossible and can work out well again looking back at the Stastny deal in the past.

If we’re going to pay that kind of price, I’d rather get Lindholm…who’d likely be cheaper

Buchnevich has 2 years and affordable lindholm wouldn't sign with the jets and frankly the jets shouldn't go for lindholm if the idea is to extend him as he's wanting basically what scheifele got which he isn't worth and would block prospects like lambert, mcgroarty and barlow.

Jets should've traded for Buchnevich when the Blues did, now it isn't really worth it as I'm pretty sure he's not playing center and hasn't in a long time plus his acquisition cost would be pretty crazy high.

Yeah would cost a bit but again how much less is lindholm? Maybe a 1st prospect and Gustafsson but you get one playoff run and he's gone and frankly shouldn't be extended by the jets as it would be a long term 7-8m deal that blocks prospects. Buch gets 2 years and does what lindholm does besides the faceoffs. Buch will cost more bit you get next year as well which is fair. If the jet pay for lindholm don't win the cup and lindholm leaves the jets could be in the exact same position next year and pay more for lindholm and x player next year than paying once for Buchnevich

Then jets look elsewhere. Chibrikov is playing on par with lambert in the ahl if you looked and it's his first season in the ahl and NA while lambert has had more NA experience. Chibrikov has the chance to be the best out of the jets Top prospects lol

Yea that’s my bad…I don’t know the jets prospects that well. Should’ve definitely done some research
