Trades
1.
BOS
  1. Schmid, Akira
  2. 2024 1st round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
It’s really a trade for a first plus their choice of Vanacek at 50% retained, Schmid, or Daws. My preference is Schmid whom I believe has redeemable talent
2.
BOS
  1. Hanifin, Noah
  2. Lindholm, Elias ($850,000 retained)
Additional Details:
It’s a steep price, but makes the team better across the board.
CGY
  1. Grzelcyk, Matt
  2. Lohrei, Mason
  3. 2024 1st round pick (NJD)
  4. 2025 1st round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Two first rounders plus a prospect in Lohrei who has top 4 D potential with minimal retention.

Vitek 50% retained it is. Assuming health on Ullmark

Or tell you what. We can Take Gryz, retain 50% on Hanifin, Lindholm, etc

You get:

Vitek (no retention)
50% retained Hanifin
50% retained Lindholm

You give
Lohrei
1st
Ullmark
Gryz

Calgary gets

1st
1st
Lohrei

Gives
Hanifin
Lindholm
No retention

NJD gets
Ullmark
Gryz

NJD gives
1st
5 million dollars in retention

I’d be OK with two of them to make the deal work

Can any other team offer more than a 1st and a prospect for Lindholm OR Hanifin? Likely.

NJD accepts

Will teams be willing to give a better prospect who has shown more upside than Lohrei plus two number 1’s.. I don’t view it as likely, but I’m fine waiting until the offseason and keeping those assets

The gap is probably in their valuation of Lohrei.

1st+3rd for Hanifin
1st+Lohrei for Lindholm

Should be plenty for even the most unrealistic fans (although who knows how high the Lindholm bid gets given the lack of Cs on the market)

A 3rd rounder isn’t a big value gap at all in a trade like this. Especially with virtually 0 retention. It was a good proposal

I wouldn’t trade Lohrei and a 1st for Lindholm at $850k retention. Hes a rental for most teams at this point. Teams rarely trade prospects the caliber of Lohrei for rentals.

Id give up a 2nd and a 3rd in his place if Calgary doesn’t value him like the top 4 D prospect with significant upside offensively that he is.

Part of me prefers to go after Hertl with his locked in contract and then wait until free agency for Hanifin.

2nd and 3rd instead of Lohrei would have fans much more receptive I’d imagine.

That’s what I always try to do in my prospect offers

Like: Seamus Casey but if you prefer I can replace with 1st+3rd
Or Holtz but if you prefer I can replace with 1st+2nd

Two UFAs ....You're giving a first for each and one prospect between them. Grizz is a cap dump

Grz is a useful defenseman and has been playing solid now that he’s healthy. You now have a retention slot.

I’m giving you a top shelf prospect who is displaying an offensive skill set that looks extremely promising and is likely developing into a solid top 4 defenseman with time.

It’s a fairly easy solution, wait for Hanifin to be a free agent and call San Jose about Hert if we make a deal. That’s probably the more prudent path anyway.

I'm not saying Lohrei isn't a decent prospect. I'm saying that Calgary will be looking for a 1st and a decent prospect for Each player. Calgary would need to value Lohrei twice as much as anything else on the table in this scenario. Grizz is just a plug until the end of the season for them, which I get into make the dollars work. However, it's not any value add to the deal.

Personally, I want to see Boston stand pat and just pursue Hanifan in July. I also have reservations about Lindholm’s next contract. His stat line this year is kind of off putting for a player asking for $9m

I don't see him getting 9 Million. He's an excellent two way center. You never have to worry about him defensively, but he won't carry a line on his own. He needs skilled wingers to produce at a 8+MM level. I'm sure that wouldn't be an issue with Pasta, but it creates Cap issues.

The Jets, Yotes, and Islanders seem like the best fit from a lineup standpoint. A Barzal, Lindholm, Horvat line would be killer.
