Persuading Tavares to stay

Created by: alwaysnextyear
Team: 2017-18 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 9, 2017
Published: Jul. 9, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Getting Eberle is a nice carrot for Tavares, but overall they lost Strome and Hamonic. Tanev would be a big defensive upgrade for the current roster.

Vancouver makes that trade in a second. Finally, someone who recognizes Tanev's value!

I think this would be a smart play for both teams. Van gets the better futures, and the Isles upgrade their current D dramatically. Actually I think that overall the Isles would be making out like bandits on the three trades; basically it would be swapping out

Strome < Eberle
Hamonic < Tanev
Barzal < 1st, 2nd, 4th round picks

They'll have added three picks and upgraded their RW and D.

There's no way that the Duchene/Barzal scenario was even close to a straight up trade. I'm guessing there were one or two other valuable pieces coming from the Isles and Garth didn't want to add Barzal to the already valuable package.

Barzal is worth way more than a 1st, 2nd and 4th especially when you consider the 1st will be 17th or later
