There is nothing to debate. Leafs should be sellers. Trade Bertuzzi, Domi, Brodie, and anyone else on an expiring deal. Also, Treliving should approach Tavares and ask if he wants to waive to a contender. Leafs can eat half his cap for 2 years and potentially get back 2 1sts.

I’m a Sabres fan, so no dog in the fight about your proposed trade with VAN…. but i don’t see how that makes sense for them at all ??

I could see the NYR trade go through though

Canucks aren’t moving a 1st for Bertuzzi and Brodie. We don’t have a spot for Brodie, but I’d be interested in Bertuzzi depending on the price if we don’t get a guy like Guentzel or Lindholm

Canucks decline of course. Giving up a lot of future assets to not even get better

Bertuzzi isn’t on the radar. A liability that cannot even be a good 3rd liner playing on the 2nd line.
Doesn’t play D gets lost out there. Kuz has more upside that takes lil to make that an easy no deal.

Bertuzzi hasn’t put up many points this year but he does have really good underlying metrics and is shooting well below his career average (due for positive regression). He’s not the worst target depending on the price. He was also very good in playoffs last year

Easy pass for Canucks.
Canucks have no interest in Bertuzzi and Brodie, and they look terrible under coach Rick's coaching system.

Problem here is that NYR too should be sellers. They are at .500 last 22 games. And look nothing like that team the first 22 games of the season. Besides that it is s very fair trade proposal to NYR.

As a Habs fan I will try to be objective (which will be hard because I hate the Leafs).

The next few weeks (3 to 6 weeks) will be interesting. Does Toronto continue to struggle, which should make them sellers? Or does their offence carry them to better results and make the management team make them think they should be buyers?

I hate to say it, but I cannot see the team continuing to struggle as much as they have recently. I think Toronto is a good enough regular season team to bounce back.

Whether they have a properly constructed team for the playoffs is the next question. I don’t think they do, which is supported by past results, but that could (hopefully not) change.

I posted a trade proposal yesterday about Montreal trading Monahan (a center on an expiring contract for under $2M who has 31 points in 46 games) and there was some pushback on that value. If Treliving can get a first from Vancouver for Bertuzzi (a winger whose cap hit is $5.5M and who only has 19 points, playing on a more talented team) then that would be quite a feat.

I think Toronto needs more grit and defensive awareness. Just not sure where they get what they need, given their cap situation (although Jake Allen and David Savard could be acquired for the right price. Ha!)
