I don't imagine EDM would be interested in adding Schultz at all and certainly not for a 2nd.

Edmonton would be interested in Schultz. But the Cap doesn’t work. Ceci would have to go the other way, you can flip Ceci in the off season for an additional asset though.

2nd
Ceci

For Schultz (50% retained)

Given the build of the Oilers roster, I’d honestly rather have Ceci than Schultz at this point. At least Ceci has a semblance of edge to his game. I do think that an upgrade on Ceci would be ideal, but it ain’t coming via Justin Schultz, and certainly not for a 2nd. I was a fan of him, but Schultz was a bit of a defensive liability in his prime with Pittsburgh, and he’s certainly lost a step since then.

I think EDM would rather just fork over the extra assets to make a Larsson deal happen. Not only is he obviously better, but is far less one dimensional. If he’s not an option, then the Oilers should look elsewhere IMHO.

Schultz is a definite upgrade on Ceci. Dudes won a Cup too and has offensive IQ and skill that Ceci can’t touch. Ceci’s edge is ineffective and it’s not much edge to begin with. He’s a teddy bear out there, despite the big body. Schultz won’t mangle someone’s back with cross checks but positionally and with his stick he can more than hold his own in a top 4 role. The big upgrade tho is replacing Ceci’s anemic offence with Schultz’s. Watch oilers game very carefully and count how many times Ceci gets the puck in the o zone only to either throw a crest muffin at the net or completely miss the net. Replace that with Schultz and we are instantly a bette team.
