Thesis: Assuming Avs trade for Lindholm, what is the possibility of resigning him? Using a 7.5 million cap hit, which is in the range that is reported for an extension, what would the Avs lineup look like?
In order for a signing like this to occur, the Avs would need to shed salary. Johansen is the obvious choice, he is slow, does not fit with the team, and is getting paid far too much to be a 3rd/4th line center, and Lindholm would be filling the hole he was meant to.
Girard has also been a frequent candidate to be traded in Avs fandom, so I have included him as well. I really like Girard and think he is a great fit on this team, but we would need to move his salary to afford Lindholm.
The last piece of this is Landeskog, assuming he is in the lineup next year, and not on LTIR, there is much less financial flexibility.
Conclusion: If we sign him to this contract (which is on the lower end of his reported asking price), then our remaining team would essentially have to be league minimum guys and prospects. Even with those cheap contracts, we would still be right up against the cap, and would run into more issues down the road trying to retain other players. Of course, if Landeskog goes back on LTIR or Retires, it could be a real possibility. However, based on what Calgary is asking for in a trade, it might not be worth it for a rental.
Yeah they say 8.5 cause he regressed and was a byproduct of geaudreau or whatever and tkachuk.
Lindholm is not Anisimov, Hartman, or Zacha. He is a more than capable top 6 center. But like anyone playing with superstars his production will go up accordingly with them and take a drop when he goes to playing with middle 6 players instead.
DFO talked about Lindholm recently and noted that probably one of the key contributors to his goal scoring falling so hard is his lack of shots from the slot. In the Gaudreau Tkachuk year he took something like 46% of his shots from the slot, last year that dropped to 30% and this year it's at like 17%.
I’m considering Lindholm (or really any other C) to be a rental in Colorado.
I also think it’s more likely Byram gets moved than Girard this offseason. Byram still has a ton of upside, but he has been a bit disappointing this year imo. Long term, he’s stuck behind Makar/Toews. You could probably get a good NHL-ready 2C for him.
In my ideal universe, Ritchie becomes NHL ready immediately and solves all the problems while on his ELC. A guy can dream…

Ritchie might come 25-26 season unless he plays in the ahl playoffs if the eagles make it to get him acclimated.
Basically sums up quite well why it doesn't work for the Avs. There would also need to be more coming back if we're giving up Girard and a 1st.
I agree that those two pieces alone would be too much for Lindholm, but considering that Calgary would be taking Johansen's contract I think it's actually pretty feasible.
