Seems like too much going to the pens swap hogs for a lesser prospect?

I would argue to swap Hoglander for a better prospect.

Fair enough but then I just would keep Guentzel. Give him 8 years / 9MM per. Then in 3 years when the Pens might be really bad. Shop a 32yo winger who is still likely putting up 30+ goals when the cap is up to 95MM+. I can even eat some of it. The return would likely be more than what is offered by OP.

Zero chance he resigns with the rebuilding pens man you’ll take the best offer that’s given to you and if this was offered this would be the best one but I doubt it even gets offered

Penguins will keep Guentzel.
There’s no point of trading him at the Trade Deadline.

Why zero chance? He can play with Crosby a few more years then get traded to a contender.

If he signs a FA deal worth 10MM over 7 years, that's 70MM. If he signs a 9MM over 8, that's 72MM. So he gets more money and keeps playing with one of the best forwards in NHL history.

It makes sense for the Pens to resign Guentzel

I don't see your logic.

Of course it makes sense for them but I can’t see it happening can’t see him wanting to stick around for a rebuild, but anything is possible he has only played there his entire career

He wouldn't stick around for a rebuild. He would sign on the condition that he has a 15 team no trade clause. Then when the Pens rebuild, he goes to a contender of his choice. It's a win-win

I agree that’s best case scenario for both sides
