Leafs need a true top 4 dman. Preferably a proper #2 or #3 RD. TVR is solid but he is more of a #5. Leafs have enough solid depth guys.

I would much rather keep Robertson.

But I would be very happy getting Sandin back if you guy are kicking him to the curb!

Robertson is probably more valuable than the 3rd pairing defenseman signed for 2 more seasond to 3 mil aav.

You guys aren’t trading sandin, but despite what the other leafs fans say I’d love to see this go through

I think the Avs still decline that one. Lindgren has never impressed me and Strome I'm not convinced on either. It's certainly closer than most Byram trades though.

Too much to dump Campbell. We’ll just buy him out.

Will send you a 2nd for Dowd though.

I’m a maybe on Aubel.

The picks don't make much of a difference. More than anything, its TVRs contract. Not many teams want to pay their 3rd pairing guys 3 mil aav for term. It's just not a good situation to be in. The Leafs especially can't afford to be doing this with their cap structure.I have a feeling any sort of trade involving him, to any playoff team, would have to have retention to bring him more in line with expectations for a 3rd pairing guy.

Didn’t know 3rd pairing guys play 18-19 minutes a game. You might be ignorant to his game. I think team would gladly pay 3m if not more for a reliable 18-19 minute per game player. I guess LILJEGREN is a 3rd pairing guy.

I mean he should be a 3rd pairing guy and probably would be on any playoff team. If you are playing TVR above the 3rd pairing, you aren't in a very good defensive situation anyway. Liljegren has played more than half this season on the 3rd pairing and the main conversation around the Leafs in fixing their defense which would push him down to 3rd pairing to stay. If you want to compared Liljegren to TVR, be my guest, neither should be in your top 2 pairs if you have any real hope of doing anything.

Point being is that is you play 1/3 of the game you’re not really 3rd pairing. Common sense would tell you that. So LILJEGREN will likely sign for less than 3m right bc he’s a 3rd pairing and anything more than that would be horrible?

Point is that when you are playing 1/3rd the game on a team with terrible defense, and not doing particularly well in doing so, you probably aren't playing that on a team who's making the playoffs. Just because he is one thing in Washington doesn't mean he's that thing anywhere else. Not only that but being locked in on a deal that's bad if he doesn't.

You could argue the exact opposite of what you are saying here also. Washington has a better GA/G than Toronto lol Washington is also only 6 points behind Toronto so we aren’t acting like the Leafs are drastically better defensively or standing wise.

Sure but what does that matter? The idea is why would you move assets for TVR when you could go elsewhere and not be locked into a bad contract for years to come. There are much better options. Suggesting the Leafs defense is just as good as Washington's currently and the main conversation around the Leafs is improving their defense ... how is trading for an overextended Washington defenseman going to fix the problem if he's not having any more success than the Leafs are currently having? Where exactly are the Leafs getting better? Liljegren or TVR playing top 2 pairs minutes? Neither is a particularly good option and it's where the Leafs want to improve, not pay to move sideways. At least Liljegren is still young, may improve yet and doesn't cost anything to acquire.

Now imagine the further implications of that. The Leafs have among the worst defenses among the current playoff teams and if TVR is a sidegrade for them, what does that mean elsewhere for the 3 mil AAV defender signed to term? That's why any move involving him likely involves retention and him being moved down to the 3rd pair.
