You're a fair bit short, it'll take a 2nd and a B prospect to get Henrique, and a mid round pick for Carrick.

Since you don't have a 2nd, we'll take the 24 1st and give our third back with Henrique.

Or the Leafs can just wait and sign them in free agency. I doubt many contending teams have the cap space or desire to accommodate a 3C. This offer is as good as any.

Sure, you could, but then you're not going to have them this season, and you have to be the most attractive bidder next season. Given the leafs cap situation, I doubt you can realistically throw money at anyone.

Bertuzzi, Domi, Brodie, Samsonov, Klingberg, will all be gone. That's 20 million in cap space. Leafs can definitely afford Henrique. Carrick, it depends on how many suitors he has. The Ducks would be wise to get back anything for these veteran UFAs. A fifth for Carrick is very generous.

We've got a bounty of the kind of prospects you get with a 5th, we may as well not make Carrick move and keep him around as our 14th forward for that, and it's Henrique you are quite short on, we'll get a better offer than a couple 3rds.

And yeah, Leafs might have 20 million to distribute, over 12 players. After spending league minimum on all the open spots, that's something like 14.5 million for "upgrading" and they need a tandem goalie, 2-3 top 4 D, a top 6 winger, a 3C, and the rest of the roster. That's not a lot to go around when people are going to want raises.

Leafs hang up the phone at that point.

I just can't see Henrique or Monahan getting back a 1st.

They're looking for a top 4 RHD, like Chris Tanev for example.

They need both, a top 4D and a 3C because Keefe doesn't trust Domi in that spot.

No wonder Leafs made a mistake by letting go a player like Sam Lafferty squinty smile

That's great.

But the players still have to want to sign with Toronto.

ROR, Schenn and Acciari chose not to re-sign with Toronto when most Leaf fans thought/hoped they would be back.

UFA is unpredictable and you usually end up overpaying.

Treliving doesn't know how to evaluate talent and Keefe doesn't know how to deploy it. If Lafferty were on the Leafs still he'd be a healthy scratch.

Rutherford and Tocchet are miles ahead of the Dumb and Dumber guys running the Leafs.

I agree with you.
If the Leafs don't succeed this year, Treliving should fire Keefe and bring in Craig Berube.
