endless possibilities

Description
Going into this year's offseason is where I predict we will reach the most pivotal point in Hughes GM tenure. Listed here is the Habs most likely roster on paper after the glaringly obvious moves have been made. Please don't squabble over the returns, they are approximations with teams that may or may not be interested.

Hutson will be turning pro at the end of this season and as such, a Dman needs to move. With Hutson in the mix there's 8 NHL calibre defensemen vying for the save 6 spots, not to mention Barron, Mailloux and Reinbacher. Trading Matheson or Savard remains a possibility but I'm not sure how wise it would be to have such little veteran presence. Harris is the easy man out here in my view.

After all is said and done, the Canadiens will be left with over $20M in cap space (could be upwards of $30M if Hughes pulls the trigger on a Gallagher buyout and can manage to shed Dvorak) and a massive arsenal of picks over the next three years.

Hughes has laid the foundation, now it's time for him to pain his masterpiece. A huge move is coming and I absolutely can't wait to find out what it is.

Extremely unlikely Winnipeg even looks at that. The Jets have 3 centers that are much better than Monahan and a 1st is way too much to pay for a 4th line depth guy on the Jets.

If Winnipeg's 1st is in play, they'd be looking at a much better player than Monahan.

He's on pace for 60 points and is over 55% on the draw. for less than a million against the cap after retention. He's the perfect rental for a contender. a late first is the floor. Think of who has gotten a first at previous deadlines. "4th line depth" lmao

Monahan gets his points playing PP1 time in Montreal. He's not getting PP1 time or over 18 minutes a night on a playoff team and he's terrible at 5 on 5. He's not better than anything Winnipeg already has. No interest..

4th line depth doesn't cost a 1st.

Jets Decline
Monahan does absolutely nothing for WPG and isn’t worth that price

Apparently it does! Plus a conditional pick! And no retention! enjoy your 4th line depth hahahahaha. For real though, I hope Monahan plays some good hockey for you and I'll be rooting for you guys in the playoffs

Yes, Montreal fans should be happy, that's a haul. Disappointing for Winnipeg fans though. A 1st should buy you more. Retention doesn't matter. The Jets have tons of cap space.
