Pretty solid all around, CGY probably wants more for Hanafin

A lot of ppl wont like the idea of trading Ullmark midszn

Personally Id accept, especially since the Dman ur dumping is Forbort and not Griz, better insurance incase Lindholm or Hanafin go down

Would have to be a protected pick 100%

I think it's too much to give up. Net trade is a Vezina caliber goalie, a B prospect and a depth D man for a #2LHD... seems like an overpay, I'd like a pick back from moving Ullmark

Goalies values are limited.

I think that would be fair to protect (top 12 or 14) something like that, which is basically the protection that NY put on the Hovart pick.

Kind of curious when and if that narrative will eventually change with almost every team who took a risk on goaltender is regretting it.

I do think teams are realizing that allowing Helly to stay in Winnipeg was a mistake. In most cases, I believe keeping the very good goaltender is the right choice. I’m not sold that is based on what other teams will pay or that GM’s know a good goalie when you have one is great for job security

I think playoffs protected (top 16) would be fair. If Ullmark isnt playing well enough to get us into the playoffs I wouldn’t say he’s worth a 1st.

And then transfers to next year if doesn’t convey this year. In the scenario where we make the ECF you get our 2nd instead of our 3rd and then our 1st next year

Trades that don’t have you questioning on all sides are generally a requirement to get a deal done.

If you are going I 100% do that deal, it’s likely because the trade is one sided.

Id do it because it secures Hanifin and gives some optionality,

I also believe that keeping Ullmark through his contract and allocating his salary slot to Frederic may be the better thing to do long term.

Sure there is probably some nuance there that seems amenable. The deal itself frankly makes sense if Boston decides it’s worth it to move Ullmark now because Hanifin signing elsewhere is a risk

That said, taking a risk that Hanifin signs on July 1st and revisit the trade market then is probably the way to maximize their assets if they are willing to take that risk.

Yeah I’d estimate if they wait on Hanifin and can get him they’ll pay a 3rd for the 8th year of his rights (because I expect him to want an 8 year deal)

And then sell Ullmark for a pair of 2nds or something in the offseason? (I feel like the price will be smaller in the offseason)

So basically the question is if they’re confident in getting Hanifin for free, and how much do they value 1 year of Hanifin this year.

I’m going to be intrigued to see how Ullmark in the off-season happens. Multiple teams went cheap and frankly paid for it. Hes extension eligible at the beginning on the season, which might facilitate some teams who would be interested vs not, and the UFA class sucks for lack of a better term.
