I think I'd go for this from Colorado’s perspective. Not thrilled to be paying to move RyJo, but it might be necessary.

I have a really hard time seeing Colorado taking on a 4C at 2M for next year. They will have to make tough choices without taking on that additional cap.

You do realize this trade sheds 2.3mil for COL next year right...?

Johansen has more points playing fewer minutes than Evans, I like Evans but not at the price and contract. Ironically if Evans were on an expiring deal I’d be more inclined to do it.

You do realize that COL will be very hard pressed against the cap anyways. Ryjo has to go, that goes without saying. They still can’t take on a 2M 4C. Do some research before you act like you know it all.

Agree. The second year is what does it a no go.

Pay attention to who Evans is before you pretend you know it all. Watch him play and you'd be ecstatic to have him on your team.

I don’t know where i’ve said anything about Evans being bad? Quite the contrary, i like him. If he where a rental, sure, i would go for it. The second year is what makes it a no.

All my point was in my original comment was that this move saves you 2.3 million on a C for next year on a contract you already had on the books with the same term. Evans would be similarly as productive given the same opportunities as RyJo. Most teams would likely want the 2nd just for taking RyJo and here we're replacing a C from your roster for the same return.

I'd be very happy for the Leafs to try and pick up Evans. For what he gives at his price point and with another year are all positives from my point of view

Absolutely just not at $2M nobody is kicking the idea or even for what it is this year, it’s next years contract. COL already has their guys they are paying in the bottom 6 in Colton, and Wood for better or for worse. COL still needs to address C depth next year, back up goalie, what to do on the 3rd pairing, and with the anticipated return of Landeskog in they just can’t have a $2M 4C. Now say COL sends back a prospect and MTL retains 50% for next year I bet that is something worth discussing. Nobody is arguing Evans value or even the trade, it just that second year.

I think COL having to pay to move RyJo is one of the biggest fallacies on CF especially if they do it in the off season. People act like he is the black hole, put him in a system where he is asked to play at break neck speed I think he would be just fine, I really think he would go well in CHI but that’s just my opinion

I mean term for term with RyJo at 2.3 mil less was my whole point. You already have the contract on the books for next season, this way it's a cheaper contract giving you guys move financial flexibility and swapping C for C.

I get what you’re saying. It just doesn’t work for COL. They’ll have to cut Johansen lose (or another similar contract) and replace him with a 1M player. If they take on a 4C at 2M for next year then they will have to get rid of another big contract. It’s very safe to say that adding Evans makes it very difficult next year and that has nothing to do with Ryjo since he has to go anyways. I disagree about having to pay a 2nd to move him tho.

You may not have to pay to move him but NSH essentially had to pay 4mil and a retention slot (Chucky coming back doesn't count lol), best case scenario would be a return of a late pick or FC if anyone had interest (SJS comes to mind after seeing the Granlund resurgence).

I know where you are coming from, but if COL is going to move RyJo they are going to want that hole $4M that’s the thing.

Fair price on Evans. Would have to think taking armia back is a solid no go for NYR

Armia has been playing great but i understand this trade doesn't look good on this website but in real life at the NHL this is usually how trades work, when teams give up on players and need to shed cap other teams don't pay much for the players, maybe montreal add a mid pick

I’d think Kakko still has at least a 1st in value tbh. Which is what it would cost to dump Goodrow.

I think if they move those two pieces out it’ll be for assets that make the current team better. I don’t think swapping armia in does that for NYR.

Avs would like to move on from RyJo but, they don't have a big use for Evans and his cap beyond this season. Pavel is penciled in to be the 4c next season
