What do you see as being wrong with the trade idea?
Well, first let me say that if I were Seattle, I'd take it. Oleksiak is a human bad turnover, and for that reason I'm not sure if he'd really help the Leafs right now. Yeah, he's a big monster who can skate and has a good stick, but ehh it ain't worth it to me.
As for your question, I don't think Seattle considers it for a variety of compounding reasons. First, they want to make the playoffs this season. Bad. As much as everything costs in Washington state, I don't blame them. They currently have A) one of the hottest goalies in the league & B) basically no D depth to speak of, at least when it comes t9 the rest of this season. They're actually only carrying 6 D at the moment, and Oleksiak plays 20 minutes per night for them. They'd have no one to replace the things he does for them, and I mean NO ONE. Plus, their prospect pool is already in decent shape and they still have all their top picks in the drafts ahead.
So basically they'd be trading their affordable top 4 Dman who's signed until '26 that they desperately need now for a late 1st and a dude they don't need who has little value but makes enough that he wipes out most of the cap sent out with Oleksiak, thus dampering their ability to replace him quickly and adequately on the market.
Personally, I'd be all for this trade, perhaps it would allow Army to get an over a barrel price for Leddy or Faulk (I'd also say Krug, but Seattle is a looooong way from his home). I just don't see Seattle being anywhere near that high on it.
