Lysell cup of coffee

Created by: dugg133
Team: 2023-24 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 4, 2024
Published: Feb. 4, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Lysell has like 23 points in his last 21 games, and has finally bought into playing a team game. Why not give him a cup of coffee to see if he can give the middle 6 a boost before Sweeney tries to do the same via trade? You can fit him without having to waive anyone and Providence is about to go on their all star break, there's no harm in it.

just makes too much sense. He's playing the best hockey of his life right now, and we know they're looking an impact forward since they were looking into both Lindholm and Monahan before they were traded.

They need to give him some games at some point just to experience the NHL level.
Giving Steen a regular shift is pointless.

especially since there's a pretty clear hole in out top 6 right now. Marchand-Coyle-Pasta is performing like a legit top line right now. Freddy-Geekie-JVR performs like a difference making third line in the limited minutes it's played so far. Find a guy that can help Zacha and Debrusk produce on that 2nd line and we have a legit top 9, so why not try Lysell there before spending assets to fill that hole via trade?

Him or Merkulov (a real look, not 4 games with limited TOI on 4th line) works. That being, said not sure if they're really gonna do it since they have 13 forwards they like right now.

True but Poitras should be playing, he's missed some time due to WJC and injuries and he needs to play (in the top9). Being the 13th F or playing on a defensive 4th line regularly won't help him much. His development is one of the most important things in the organization right now and for the future.

The fourth line won’t be our true d zone line with some combination of Lauko, Heinen, Poitras, and Boqvist is going to be more an energy line than a defensive one.

It is time to give Lysell an opportunity.

What I mean is they're being used in a defensive role having only 10-25% of OZ starts and unsurprisingly, struggling to generate offense or score for that matter. It won't help an offensive-minded player like Poitras. He needs to be put in offensive situations and if he struggles, so be it but that will help his development, not 8 mins every game trying to get out of DZ for 75% of the time.

Poitras will not be in the lineup come playoffs, the writing is on the wall there. Not sure it's wrong either, he's just not ready physically and that's ok.

Completely agree... I don't think Steen/Brown are worth NHL minutes at this point. Give Poitras/Lysell a rotation in the top-6 and see how they do. Lysell has earned the call-up and look

The best long term scenario would be to put Poitras on the third line between Freddy and Geekie. You can then pick matchups on faceoffs based on strength discrepancies.

I’d be curious to see what Lysell could do on a Marchand / Coyle line. I wouldn’t expect stardom, but I could easily see him developing into the young top 6 guy we need

With the way they are playing, the more likely scenario is Frederic moving to the top 6 and letting Poitras marinade between JVR and Geekie.

Sitting in the press box for weeks is a waste especially at his age.
