HAHAHAHAHA. Wait… are you being serious? If the Devils moved Casey for Hanifin, the deal would likely be Casey + 2024 3rd for Hanifin. If you wanted Mercer, YOU would be the one adding. The only guy Mercer might get moved for is Saros and that’s still unlikely. And you’ve added a 1st on top of this. You’re WAY OFF. Devils offer for Hanifin would likely be

Kevin Bahl, Graeme Clarke, 2024 1st for Hanifin

I would risk Helenius, Moverare and the first for Hanifin with retention.

Los Angeles certainly doesn't need a RhD.

900k 22 year olds with a 27 goal season under their belt and an Ironman streak 2.5 years and counting don’t come cheap hope this helps.

Through 2.5 years in the NHL, Mercer has yet to miss a game. As a rookie, he put up 42 points on a bottom 10 team in the NHL. He followed that up with a 27 goal and 57 point campaign last year. After going pointless in his first 10 games this year, Mercer has 23 points in the last 37 games. He can play center or wing. He plays PP2 and is a staple on the PK. He’s a great skater and has excellent work ethic. Can’t find me many guys with all those attributes at 22 years old

you overrate him purely due to his age, would be very surprised if he ever tops that 57 pt season

Makes literally 900k. If he was a rental teams would be having wet dreams about him. But he’s not JUST a rental. He’s also got 4 years of RFA control on top of that and still developing.

You may be right in that he never gets PP1 time behind Jack Nico Luke Bratt Meier Dougie Holtz Nemec and so doesn’t get inflated stats in that area.

We will again keep the versatile Ironman 22 year old who can kill penalties, play everywhere in the lineup if need be and scored 27 goals and nearly 60 points already at 21 without PP1 time.

33rd in the league in 5v5 goals last year and 67th in 5v5 points.

          We’ll keep him.

It does, but his note says a first on top of it, which is where the delusion comes from.

I’d rather trade Merkulov or Beecher instead of Farinacci and both should be considered to be as highly regarded

lohrei and a first is just not a real world concept.

Then a Hanifin to Boston trade is just not a real world concept either unless you make it Poitras instead of Lohrei.

I'd take Mercer + 1st from NJ and let them keep Casey.

lol I’m sure you would take that. Mercer wasn’t on the table for Meier, he won’t be for Hanifin

Just be grateful you aren’t dealing with the bull**** NJD fans are right now. I thought I’d be done with this “let’s just throw Mercer holtz and Casey in like they’re secondary assets because they aren’t Luke Hughes” after the Meier deal, but here we are again

You are valuing Lohrei and Poitras as a late 2nd.

What’s the likelihood he’s a Bruin in July even if they don’t do this move? If they took odds on this, my guess is Boston has better odds than Calgary of him being on the roster next year though sentimentality could kick in. How many young players sign to stay in Calgary during their last 5 months before FA?

In fairness, I do think Devils fans over value Mercer, yourself included.

We'll have to see what magic Connie will make next

He’ll get market value for him and bring in a B prospect with promise. Every Calgary fan will be happy, The secondary player should be a good, developmental prospect

Maybe slightly, but the problem is the lack of comps out there.

When’s the last time you’ve seen a top 6 quality producer still on his ELC get traded?

Like you look at the Dach and Newhook deals. Both those guys were not nearly as productive as Mercer, and had finished their ELCs out.

          Dach got 13th overall+a 3rd
          Newhook got 31st+37th

Mercer who still has the rest of this year on his ELC left and who is frankly just a much better asset imo, how much does he get.

And think about all the teams that would be buyers on Mercer.

He can play every position up and down the lineup. He can kill penalties and play on the PP. He has 0 injury history (Ironman). And every single team can fit him into their salary cap situation.

Rebuilders can get him and sign him for 8 years
Contenders can use his RFA years to get him dirt cheap.

Every single team in the league would want and be able to bid on Mercer if he hit the market

If mercers leaguewide value is that much lower than NJD fans claim, we should really be knocking down our contract expectations on Mercer by a million or 2. Personally I hope his value is low and we can get him for 8 years at 5 mill AAV

ooooor, you could look at, lets say, the past 10 years of rental trades. That kind of prospect with a first just isn't something that rental players get. And remarkably, the fans of every single seller just forgets this prior to the deadline, gets disappointed when they get the package that every rational person could have predicted...and then we repeat.
Meier, Horvat...we can keep going back and back and back, but it's pretty routine. top prospects aren't traded with first round picks for rentals. brace yourself.
