CAL COL LAK

Initial Creation Date: Feb. 4, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is probably God awful but I'm throwing it out there to see if there is any type of modification or if it should be scrapped altogether.

I always thought LA should go for Chychrun, but this could be just as good. I would assume they make this trade knowing they'll be keeping Hanifin long term. That means they move/move on from some of their other guys in the offseason to accommodate, but its doable. Or maybe this makes no sense after the Gavrikov acquisition. IDK, you tell me.

Anyway, summary of what everyone gives and gets:

-Avs move a 1st, Behrens, Meyers and Johansen for Turcotte, a 2nd, and a 3rd. Turcotte probably won't completely solve the team's issues immediately, but he could be a good long-term addition. The Avs have the picks in case they want to chase a rental to help this year. I left that trade off though.

-Flames moves Hanifin for a 1st, Kaliyev, Behrens, and Johansen. I think this is a solid return for them. Behrens could be a good fit on their D for years to come, while Kaliyev provides some scoring and potential upside. Perhaps its a bit redundant with Kuzmenko, but I still think it works. And obviously they get the first round pick that they need in any move.

-Kings move Turcotte, Kaliyev, a 2nd, and a 3rd for Hanifin (at 1.5M) and Meyers. Losing Turcotte and Kaliyev hurts, but it's not as though the Kings have no forward depth. They can afford to make this move, and this strengthens their D, making it one of the better groups in the league.

My inclination is that LA declines first, and Colorado may not go for it either. I feel like Calgary gets what they will likely want, and they might be in.

Take out Turcotte and Meyers and the Kings might go for that. The Kings will not give up their single best forward prospect for a rental defenseman.

Understand where you're coming from. It's a necessity that Hanifin extends per the description (I probably could have been more clear). Still a no?

Probably. 3-4 months ago, the Kings might have gone for it, but Turcotte has looked fantastic since he's been called up, and the upside is too high to not see how it plays out.

Not sure the Kings can afford a Hanifin extension. I think the priority is re-signing Matt Roy, and they can't afford to do both.

Fair enough. Thanks for the input.

I'm not saying you're wrong at all, but would kind of nix the whole deal as the idea here is a 2C for the Avs. More likely the Avs would have to add more to get the Kings to bite were we to continue the premise.

One thing I'm not sure on is why Kaliyev is going from the Kings to the Avs then back to the Kings with the Avs 1st? I'm going to assume from the write up that should be going to Calgary which is probably an overpay for Hanifin as a rental. I think there are a lot of pieces there that aren't necessarily going to the right teams value-wise.

Aww crap. The description is correct. The third trade is supposed to go to the Flames.

That's a terrible deal for Calgary and even worse for LA. Hanifin @50% retained for Kaliyev, Turcotte and the picks would be better for both teams but Calgary would probably turn that down. LA wouldn't have to take on Myers to help Colorado out either.

Oh that makes a huge difference. In that case it's an overpay for Hanifin. Calgary would trade Hanifin @50% retained to LA for Kaliyev + 1st + 2nd/3rd. LA could keep Turcotte + either the 2nd or the 3rd and wouldn't have to take on Myers.

Or maybe Conroy would prefer Turcotte over Kaliyev, either way it's a better deal for both Calgary and LA with Colorado not involved.

Also if Colorado really wants a center I bet Backlund would waive for a team like Colorado now. He's a really solid defensive center who makes everyone around him better (he's so well known for that they call it "the Backlund Bump") and has a 2 year extension kicking in next year at 4.5 mil/year.

I thought as much but confused the hell out of me for a moment. To me that means Calgary is getting too much for Hanifin and LA not getting enough to prise Turcotte out of there.

That's a terrible deal for Calgary. The Flames would take Kaliyev and a 1st from LA long before they'd take Behrens and Johansen.

I just fixed it. The third trade was supposed to go to the Flames, so Calgary gets a 1st, Kaliyev, Behrens, and Johansrn.

I'm sick in bed doing this on my phone. Messed it up.

Maybe. But considering how good Turcotte has looked so far, I don't think he's available right now.

laugh So you send garbage to Calgary with $1,950,000 retained on Noah Hanifin, And yet get a by far better deal from LA and retain $1,500,000 which is over the 50% retained value. $3,450,000 retained is illegal that's way more then the 75% retained you're allowed to have, it's 50% another 25% which this is wayover. Trades a joke and Hanifin won't extend in LA so the trade isn't happening.

Lol. I love it when someone brings heat and simultaneously makes a complete a** of themselves.

4,950,000 x .75 = 3,712,500.

3,450,000 < 3,712,500.

Nice work

I think Calgary would prefer to get Turcotte over the other pieces. We need centre depth after Lindy going.
