Isles pass, Barabanov is having a horrible year and a UFA at the end of the year. Not looking for pure rental, which he would be

I'd take a mid-round flyer on Barabanov - he scored at a 50-point pace over the past two seasons on some similarly bad Sharks teams, and my hope would be he remembers how to do that once he gets outta there.

The rest of the trade doesn't make much sense either. I have no problem with the Isles moving Wahlstrom in a change-of-scenery move but Weisblatt hasn't shown any success at the AHL level to date - and I don't really trust the Bridgeport staff to get another level out of him at this point.

We wouldn't take Justin Bailey for free, but we might give you a 2025 third for UFA Kahkonen.

Honestly I have to ask why. He's not an incredible player* but he plays with a ton of energy, is usually the first guy to the puck in races, is on a league minimum deal so he can provide decent value to an AHL squad if needed with no consequences at the NHL level. You're not right up against the contract limit and his deal expires at the end of the year so that part shouldn't be an issue either.

* For pedantic people, I mean not an incredible player by NHL standards. He's probably one of the best 1,000 RW in the world so the word incredible is a relative term.

If they’re going to trade with SJ I’d rather they target Duclair. Would be fun to see Barzal play with someone who’s fast enough to keep up with him.

Yeah, Duclair is pretty much my #1 trade target at this point. Shouldn't cost a high pick and would fill one of their biggest needs - throw him on the wing with Barzal and Horvat and I think he starts looking like that 30 goal scorer he was before his injury.

I like it actually. We'd get a prospect with Barabanov. But agreed with other posts here, would rather get Duclair.

If it was a better prospect maybe but Wiesblatt isn't good. To give up Wally and a 2nd for a pure rental and a below average prospect, to me it isn't worth it.

Yeah, swapping Wally for Weisblatt makes zero sense. Weisblatt has 10 career goals in the AHL; Wally already has two NHL seasons with more goals than that.

I looked at his stats after I posted this. Yeah, definitely do not want Weisblatt anymore. But I don't hate the idea of Barabanov.
