The buyout cap space isn't much more helpful than just burying him. They might as well leave him buried and then maybe by him out further down the road if they are gonna go that route. But, if they are receiving some cost controlled roster players back with some possible untapped upside, the cost of a cap dump could be a lot more appealing and open up more space to make a move now. There is no telling if a late 1st is ever gonna play in the NHL anyway, and they should be in win now mode. Beauvillier and his cap hit would probably defeat the purpose of that, unless they really believe in what he brings to their team. Personally, I didn't get to see enough of him to say one way or the other. He was alright in the games he did play, though, and his metrics look decent.
