What are the pens? I've never heard of them?
Please explain
thx
They are NHL team who currently has average defense, above average goaltending, an abysmal power play and a major scoring issue. Adding an inconsistent declining forward, signed for two more years at $4.5M who has no real semblance of a 200ft game to a team that currently has THREE underachieving forwards in the top six will only add to the problem, not help.
As a Blues' fan pointed out, he's wildly inconsistent, so to look at his goal total in deceiving.
Smith: 8 goals
Rust: 13 Goals
Rakel: 5 Goals
Saad 13 goals
Let's not act like Saad is lighting it up here. We're not talking about the different between like 20 goals and 8 goals, we're talking about 13 goals vs. 8 goals, so let's not act like Saad is grossly outperforming the guys mentioned above, especially not at $4.5M. He's a bad investment and a capdump and Blue's fans are aware of this.
Graves? Not really a capdump right now. Yeah, he's not living up to his contract, but his past sample size gives more reason to think he'll bounce back whereas Saad has been consistently inconsistent.
I'm assuming you're super young, so you probably don't remember this, but when both Gonchar and Paul Martin started with the Pens their first seasons were terrible. They struggled to fit in the system and were pretty bad, and there was a lot of crying from the Pens' base about them being a mistake. Turned out they just need a year to settle in. I know time is not on the Pens' side, but since the defense isn't in shambles, no reason to wreck it to add something that doesn't help them and causes more cap problems.
