deal.

LOL No way. Saad is COOKED. You think Pens fans are frustrated with Smith and Rakell's contract? Dude... Saad is a capdump at this point.

Graves isn't have a terrific season, but he's slowly starting to come around, not to mention he's far from the major issues the Pens actually have.

Agreed on Vrana instead, but I wouldn't mind Graves. Not a terrible cap hit and seems to be solid defensively. Worth a shot alongside Parayko. Would obviously have to get rid of a Leddy or Krug first but I wouldn't mind adding Graves

There's this fixation with players from Pittsburgh always being dealt to the Pens and it never happens, and it won't.

For years. R.J. Umberger was the same thing. John Gibson, Saad, etc... There are no connections just because they're from Pittsburgh.

Dude, it gets them out of that deal and into another bad one? That makes no sense. Saad, Rakell and Smith. How many underperforming top-six wingers do we need, let alone be locked into?

Do you actually watch the Pens? This team's issue is not defense or goaltending; it's scoring. Plain and simple.

Saad has hit his decline. The Blues would either need to retain or add incentive to any deal to take Saad. 37 points last year and on pace for a little less this year, and he's 31 years old. This is a bad contract that's getting worse by the day.

Graves is at least redeemable at this point. He's simply struggling to fit into this system, but will more than likely come around. I'd much rather keep Graves.

He has one less goal than Smith and Rakell combined.... sounds like it'd help scoring to me!

Smith isn't going to be on the team come the summer, they'll move him.

Team is stuck with rakell and going into the summer with an extra $4.5M from graves being off the books would be a plus. Move smith as well and there is an extra $9.5M on top of Carter coming off the books and the cap going up.

End of the day it doesn't matter, there will be no trades for the penguins.

This logic literally makes no sense. 35ish points is not worth $4.5M for another two years on player who's clearly hit his decline HARD. You don't get hockey.

If you actually watched the Pens you wouldn't be saying any of this.

It's no secret what Brandon Saad is. He's a 20G 20A player who is rather streaky and has a pretty long history of playoff performance. There's no reason to talk about his pace this season or pace any season. He goes on 2 week stretches where he gets 9G and 5A in a matter of 7 games just out of the blue. But largely the rest of the time when he's not scoring he doesn't really provide a whole lot except for stretching the defense and not really making costly mistakes. He's been this same player for 10 years or so.

Graves is too similar to Parayko in style, but not as good. Colt ideally needs a J-Bo type. Strong skater, strong in transition D, strong in front of the net, safe and uncomplicated with the puck.

But he's also clearly on the decline. We already have two forwards who are underachieving and not living up to their contracts, so to get another one would just really hurt.

Graves has been struggling, but he'll come around. I'd personally rather hold on to him. For how up and down he's been, our defense is good enough and not our main issue. Scoring is by far our main issue.

They are NHL team who currently has average defense, above average goaltending, an abysmal power play and a major scoring issue. Adding an inconsistent declining forward, signed for two more years at $4.5M who has no real semblance of a 200ft game to a team that currently has THREE underachieving forwards in the top six will only add to the problem, not help.

As a Blues' fan pointed out, he's wildly inconsistent, so to look at his goal total in deceiving.

Smith: 8 goals
Rust: 13 Goals
Rakel: 5 Goals
Saad 13 goals

Let's not act like Saad is lighting it up here. We're not talking about the different between like 20 goals and 8 goals, we're talking about 13 goals vs. 8 goals, so let's not act like Saad is grossly outperforming the guys mentioned above, especially not at $4.5M. He's a bad investment and a capdump and Blue's fans are aware of this.

Graves? Not really a capdump right now. Yeah, he's not living up to his contract, but his past sample size gives more reason to think he'll bounce back whereas Saad has been consistently inconsistent.

I'm assuming you're super young, so you probably don't remember this, but when both Gonchar and Paul Martin started with the Pens their first seasons were terrible. They struggled to fit in the system and were pretty bad, and there was a lot of crying from the Pens' base about them being a mistake. Turned out they just need a year to settle in. I know time is not on the Pens' side, but since the defense isn't in shambles, no reason to wreck it to add something that doesn't help them and causes more cap problems.

I wouldn't say he's clearly on the decline. He is what he is. It's unexciting sure, but it's a decent middle 6 forward who's going to pot around 20Gs a year and have a similar amount of assists. He's not a play driver. He's extremely streaky.

Yeah, unfortunately we have enough of that right now, which is the point I'm contending with the other guy. To trade a dman who's starting to come around just add another inconsistent winger hurts us more than helps.

I wouldn’t disagree. I also don’t think a trade like that makes sense for the blues either. We too lack secondary scoring. And this does nothing to level out our pairs. It moves Krug down to a 3rd pie role. But we then have a larger cap commitment to are our defense.

Yeah, not a good move for either side and truthfully, if Graves doesn't come around? Now you guys are in a world of hurt with all the long-term dman contracts you have. I have confidence in Graves, but there's definitely a slight gamble to moving him.

LOL Well you should remember how much crap Gonchar and Martin got in each of their first seasons. It's easy to forget because of how good they were for us, but their first years were not good. They needed time to settle in.
