First trade is horrible for TOR, second trade is horrible for NJD (Meier can still bounce back). Impressive

That’s rough for Jersey…Marner is great, but Dougie and Meier are no less part of our future because of their injuries.

You know how excited I’d be if they traded Nylander and that stupid contract.

Wilson is a unique player in the NHL. An overpayment is baked in any deal.

As for the Devils trade, a 1st and pretty good prospect is added to make the trade more even. New Jersey gets the best player in the trade so it's equal value imo.

Wilson is a big player who can put up points and have grit. His deal won't go well - see Gallagher, and maybe the Tkachuk brothers when they grow up.
Devils trade sees them give up a top 10 RD and a top 10 LW (when not slumping horribly) for a top 5 RW. Marner is good but not that good - Hirvonen and a 1st doesn't make the difference

Devils are selling low on Meier in this trade, Leafs are taking the risk in this trade. But what if this season is not an outlier and Meier is not, in fact, a top 10 LW? That's why this trade is balanced. Marner is a sure thing. Meier isn't.

It’s one year of Marner vs term with Meier. Dougie maybe an option as I think he grew up a leafs season ticket holder.

What does Marner’s extension look like?

I know it’s not really the point here, but man… I don’t know if you can call Meier a top 10 LW at this point

Can’t just ignore his last 60ish games, not even including his subpar playoff

Just off the top of my head, I’m putting: Kaprizov, Guentzel, Panarin, Brady Tkachuk, Robertson, Connor, Marchand, Buchnevich, Verhaeghe, and Keller ahead of him. And I’m sure there are more who are either ahead or up for debate.

On Jersey he comes in under Hughes I would imagine or match his number.

Problem is the leafs are stuck with him for 8 yrs. Trev is making his mark in the league for the worst long term overpay signings in the league.
