yea soooo we aren’t really in a position to go and trade arguably our best prospect for another “hopeful” dman that will magically work out and miraculously make the team a cup contender. this is Just going deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole of extending the rebuild. If we decide we aren’t selling at the deadline, we aren’t taking quite this kind of risk, that’s forsure

ok but the main piece here is rakell plus in 2 years when pickering is ready things might have changed or you'll just have a great asset.

rebuilding is not an option. it either all in or sell this year to go all in again next year. only piece untouchable should be Yager and 2026 1st.

Rakell doesnt fit into the team as there is no room in the top 9 for him and pickering is a LD which ottawa is currently stacked in atm so a trade around a 24 1st, a good RD prospect and perhaps a current nhl rhd coming back for cap for the acquiring team (Jenson, Tanev, TVR etc)

so let's see: Ottawa gave up a 1st and 2 2nds right?

well the price has a bit fallen off I'd say and the rakell + pickering + 3rd round pick is very close value wise

Ottawa gave up the #12 overall pick in 2023.

Brayden Yager was the #14 overall pick in 2023.

Ottawa also gave up Washington's 2024 2nd + Ottawa's 2026 2nd.

Here, I am also asking for Pittsburgh's 2024 2nd + Pittsburgh's 2026 2nd.

Rakell has turned into a borderline cap dump while Pickering is a redundancy, given that Ottawa is stacked at LD.

If Pittsburgh doesn't want to meet our asking price or help us get back the value we lost to Arizona, then we'll just sign Chychrun to an 8 year extension instead.

It's that simple.

well rakell is much better than Greig or Joseph so there is plenty of space in the top 9

also considering that you'll be trading tarasenko

wait no. rakell is nowhere close to a cap dump. he was just injured after having a bad start. he is back to being good now as he always was.

Friedman said he doesn't want an extension in Ottawa that is the whole point of value being less than it was.

rakell = the 2 2nds
pickering = the 1st (obviously he is not as valuable as a #12 overall but here is where the value is not the same anymore)

and I'm also ok with adding something but yager is off the table for pit.

Show me where Elliotte Friedman said that Jakob Chychrun doesn't want an extension in Ottawa.

Or I might not believe you ...

why would I lie about it lol
saw it on twitter... about how he isn't loving the Ottawa situation and wasn't too keen on an extension, that is why all the trade proposals on here too
if that wasn't true not sure why Ottawa would trade him this year.

You saw it on twitter.

But you can't show me a single tweet that shows he said that ...

Your nose is as long as Pinocchio's right about now.

Chychrun is very keen on an extension with Ottawa.
