Description
Yes I know, highly unlikely. A player like Parayko would not be worth more than this. This is almost stretching, but St Louis is most likely not shopping Parayko thus they would want more for him.

The reason for the post, I remember stating a previous post I don't see Parayko helping as he is most defensive. The more I thought about it. Parayko is often asked to be the guy on defense for St Louis and as a result he has his good games and bad bad games. He pros to Parayko, he blocks and he does have a great shot.
Parayko would change the dynamic on the PP2 with his shot and being a righty. That would allow interchangeable PP strategies with Reilly whom is a better point producer and puck movers. Also Parayko with the leafs would not be as relied up thanks to Reilly.
He can then focus on being a much better version of Brodie with more offense.

Dude is signed until he's 37 and will only regress with age. Not worth

Blues fans will say no, but I really don't understand the benefit to the Leafs. Six full season of 31 year old Parayko. Wouldn't the Leafs be better having Robertson, the 1st and 6.5m in cap to sign a Dman this summer.

He will regress you are right. But his style of play could be an ideal match for 3-5 years with the core.

But I don't argue as the title. I had awhile got a lot of flack for stating I dont think Parayko is worth it for us.

I can the see the benefits the idea behind a bold move as the title but 100%, such a trade can hugely backfire as well.

Third thought: No

When will Leafs fans drop the idea already?

Biggest leafs needs are a distributing DMan as well as someone whom is good in his own end. Aside from Reilly, leafs best puck is Liljegren. The best ufa available for such is Hanifin. He is not going to be had for 6.5. Roy is good defensively but he his not well known for the power play or moving the puck.
Parayko has his issues with the puck on moving it, but he is much better than Brodie with a better shot and otherwise similar qualities.
I do agree that in time this could be a big problem also who is to say that Reilly and Parayko actually make a great pairing. It is only a guess and thus that could be a big failure too.

That being said, highly unlikely St Louis even trades Parayko for this

Parayko won’t be moved because that contract is an albatross; truly awful. He’s not worth $6.5M now - what will he be worth in 2-3 years , never mind 4-5 years 🤦🏻

Acting like that’s his job. Lmk when Reilly isn’t cross checking defenceless players because he’s not good enough to stop a player from scoring a goal

(sigh)

Brother, from your description of Parayko, you don't even know what you're bidding on. So let's just let these thoughts die on the vine.

Hi hockeynutter

Would you trade Rielly for that pkg you are not so generously offering for Parayko?

That is what you are asking STL do.

Parayko isn't an elite chance generator I don't think that's a secret. But he doesn't handle the puck like it's a grenade. He has pretty decent hands. His first pass in general isn't quick, i'm not sure if that's a systems thing or a Parayko thing. In general aside from Krug none of our D mens first passes are quick, and Krugs are only quick when it's a full stretch to Kyrou. I think our forwards fly quite a bit.

That being said, We cannot trade parayko as most of us have been echoing. We could but it would guarantee a long process of trying to rebuild our defense from the top down. We don't have the cap flexibility or space to do that and most likely wont for 2-3 years, nor will a player that is capable of single-handedly sheltering 4 other defenseman become available on the open market. If we didn't have Thomas and Kyrou signed long-term, and if Thomas didn't truly look like a 1C on a bargain contract, I think a bottom-out could be an option. But we do, and we aren't terribly far off of being a playoff team and we have 4-5 very good prospects that are a year or two away.

It would be shooting ourselves in the foot for a late first or two, and a couple B/C prospects. It's just simply not worth it, nor will it ever be worth it with where we're at.

Dude (Parayko) is underwater in every defensive metric and has been for awhile; one of the worst contracts in the league on a mediocre team but suddenly he’s Larry Robinson. With takes like those, what are you gonna do
