Granlund and Fleury off IR

Created by: LafayetteAvsFan
Team: 2023-24 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 14, 2024
Published: Feb. 14, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Avs send 2 of their top 5-6 prospects to SJ for the 2C at a discount & SJ takes on RyJo as a serviceable NHL center for one more year while they rebuild. Granlund keeps the seat warm for Ritchie this year and next -- expect Calum as the 2C in 2025-26. Re: the Wild trade, Avs could throw in a fringe NHL-er such as Kiviranta, Jones or Tufte to help the Wild close out this injury-plagued year. Roster come playoffs w/Val back and Kovalenko in U.S.

A 2026 2nd isn't going to be the winning bid

Granlund isn’t the answer, he is as bad stylistically a fit as RyJo.

Granlund is no more than a band aid for the Avs and tbh the Sharks probably turn that offer down anyway. Behrens is a good prospect, Foudy is probably a bottom 6 ceiling, then there's moving RyJo plus retention on Granlund. Don't think that would be enough. Also an overpay for Fleury at this point in his career. Avs would be better going after Kahkonen as well if they're doing a deal with the Sharks. Add the 2nd to the Sharks deal (along with Prosvetov) and Kahkonen coming back the other way and I'd say that's maybe close to fair but I still don't think Granlund is the answer.

I heard Fleury wants to be more of a starter. Devils can offer that. He also has an NMC, so wherever he decides to go, the price won't be very high.

How is that? With Nuke & Kovy all he needs to be is NHL average.

What’s the #1 issue with RyJo he can’t keep up right? Granlund was toast in PIT last year, this year he’s having a rebound year sure but he is playing 20 minutes a game on the top line to do it and check out his skating stats, he is below 50th percentile in top speed and speed bursts, he spends an abundance of time in the dzone (like 46% of his TOI) not something you’d like to see in a top line guy, he gets crushed in even strength and his xGD is -12.6. I mean if you are talking about moving real assets for him he is more the same as RyJo imo, I mean at least in the proposed trade they are having a smaller cap hit.
