You’d have to think whoever was just in second place for Tanev is calling Philly. I wonder if walker goes tonight too. Philly can maintain their 1st ask considering Tanev’s return. I need trades to help me get thru the oilers getting stomped by my team (oilers stomping my team momentarily) .
For all the bandwidth spent on Calgary retaining, not retaining…talking to Devils, not talking to Devils….
I feel like there is a sub-tweet to NJD brokering this deal.
In the end its not bad but still funny how CGY just took market value for both their guys rather than try to swindle. I feel Lindholm was the one exception and they could have got more if they ret lul
Why didn’t Tre outbid Dallas if that was all it took? Maybe Calgary is high on that prospect or just doesn’t want to trade with the leafs but still, seems like a missed opportunity.

He did back in NOV CGY had the chance for a blockbuster deal involving Zadorov + Tanev
But CGY decided they dont want to deal with the former GM

Because we don't have a 2nd round pick, and paying that price for a 34 year old pending UFA would've been a stupid decision. This isn't even revisionist, I've been dead against adding Tanev. Makes no sense IMO

I'm guessing the reason there wasn't salary retention in the Lindholm trade was that Vancouver sent Kuzmenko to Calgary to make the math work on their end. The Flames must have felt that betting on Kuzmenko bouncing back with a change of scenery was worth more than whatever additional compensation they would have garnered by retaining some of Lindholm's cap hit.
I was convinced he'd get a contract last offseason after that dominant year in the Q. No cigar though
Chicago was the closest to offering him a contract (insider information lol), but never came to fruition. Hopefully we see something this offseason.
On a side note, the Blackhawks were also interested in Xaxier Parent, which is a weird coincidence. He's likely to get an NHL contract this offseason too.

Fair enough about the second rounder but Tanev would have been a nice fit beside Rielly
On a sidenote, David Savard is now the best RHD on the market, so prepare for incoming Savard for 1st +
I frankly don’t see why we’d move Savard right now, we cannot ice 6 u-25 D’s, Matheson and Savard are here to stay until their contracts expire imo, I think Philly’s Walker and Seeler just got a lot more interest
McDavid ends his goal drought at 10 games with the OT winner.
20 assists in 10 games (now 1 goal and 22 assists in his last 11).
Even in a drought he puts up 2 points a game.
