Isles 2024-25 - Retool

Created by: slapshot723
Team: 2024-25 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 13, 2024
Published: Feb. 21, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
VGK - NYI Trade

Vegas acquires Brock Nelson, a Chandler Stephenson replacement/upgrade. This trade could very likely come with an extension, probably a 4-year, $6-6.5M/year deal.

Isles acquire Brendan Brisson, a strong forward prospect who can play all three positions, and a 1st round pick. Brisson can start on the 3rd line with Pageau, then likely work his way up.

---

OTT-NYI Trade

Change of scenery trade. Ottawa acquires Ryan Pulock, a top-4 RHD, and Oliver Wahlstrom, a project RW with a lot of potential in the right circumstance.

Isles acquire a Drake Batherson, a top-6 RW, Mathieu Joseph, a middle-6 LW, and high draft picks.

---

COL-NYI Trade

With the departure of Nelson, Isles acquire a replacement with only one year left on his deal, and recoup the 2026 2nd round pick lost in the Josh Bailey deal. Colorado clears $4M in cap for an underperforming player.

---

Other moves:

- Isles sign Jake DeBrusk to a 3-year, $5M/year deal, giving him top minutes with Horvat and Barzal.
- Isles also sign Tyson Barrie to replace Pulock and play on the power play
- Isles buy out Anders Lee to save $4M+ in cap.

This off-season also gives them $4M in cap space, allowing them to decide their future by the 2025 trade deadline.

Why not Nelson directly to COL for Johansen, COL's 2024 1st, and a prospect?

If I'm Ottawa Batherson is a nonstarter for Pulock.

Don't see Ottawa moving Batherson or Joseph any time soon, as much as they need a RHD. Pulock and Bath value similar.

Wahlstrom doesn't move the needle, palmieri is a negative asset without retention so not sure why Ottawa is also adding a 2nd and 3rd.

I don't love the idea of Batherson for Pulock to begin with, but it's a reasonable idea to begin with. but the rest of the value is just absurdly unbalanced in favour of NYI

I would do Batherson for Pulock and then flip Chychrun for Lundell

I like Brisson and don't know if Colorado has as good a prospect.

That's fine, Pulock has a value as a 1st pairing RD. Not giving him away when he's locked up for a while.
