I like this trade from Chicago's perspective if there's a player they've fallen in love with available. Yes 3 2nd round picks seems overkill but there will be some solid players available in the 25-30 pick range.

All late 2nd's also. 2 of which are in the future. I think it makes a lot of sense for Chicago. And then Leafs get a few more trade chips for the future.

I understand the idea of this, but a trade like this won't happen in season. So you can use this to make deals at the trade deadline. A deal like this happens when a player on a team's board starts to fall and they want to trade up to get him. So in short, not gonna happen for the Hawks.

They got him for a 7th earlier in the year. What do you think he gets? I will turn that 5th into a 4th.

Bogosian has a 21 no trade list, so maybe Tampa had little choice on where he could be traded. I was kinda surprised he was traded because he his cap was so minimal 850,000.
Personally, I would prefer a cheap Bogosian than the usual overpaying for Tanev.

How about both? Do you think this is an overpay for Tanev?

Maybe I'm jaded by the Leafs TDL trades in the past seven years. 95% of TDL are meaningless for the buyers. The Leafs have just one player on his ELC (Knies).
So to me it's just throwing away picks....and possibly a good cheap ELC in the future.
I ask if Tanev (or any player obtained at TDL) is going to change the Leafs fortunes this season. Tanev is the fourth best Dmen on the Flames, is he going to make a difference for the Leafs? Now if you truly think he will make a constructive difference to more wins to make the playoffs more successful for the Leafs, make the trade. I just think so many folks and CF just make trades because for the same player to the same team....for no apparent reason. Must say your trade did show creativity, so thank you for that.

I think this trade should happen, even as soon as before the deadline so Toronto can flip those picks for players like suggested in this post. For Toronto, they get some flexibility in how they upgrade their team… for Chicago they gamble a bit with the value of Toronto's first. Right now it’s 24, and it could become earlier depending on the rest of the season/playoff results. The fun part of this otherwise unfun trade is the gambling… after all

arepostbatemann-today-could-literally-be-the-luckiest-day-of-your-6WUMO2SfA?s=cl

This also allows the hawks more flexibility in weaponizing their cap space, right now 2nd round picks probably don’t seem appealing to them considering their current surplus. Consolidating them allows the hawks to take on short term bad deals for 2nds, that would not otherwise bring in a first, without worrying about overloading their system with prospects that will limit their contract limit flexibility in the future.

Silly Leafies keep making the same old lowball offers that have already been rejected repeatedly.
