Oilers fan. Trying to see how Patirck Maroon might fit in with the Blues. I'm predicting he signs with STL as a UFA next summer to be closer to his son.

Does it really make sense to overpay for a guy who has only succeded while either playing on Getzlaf's or McDavid's wing and otherwise is playing on a 4th line.

Team looks good. If he scores at the same rate that will be the going price. And where does the 4th line comment come from, clearly not actually watching Maroon play. Its not like CMD bounced 27 pucks off Patties back side while he stood in front of the net. His stats are inflated by his icetime and playing with a great player.. but he is putlting in the work to be on that line. Maroon also put alot of work in last off season to be able to be the current player he is, dont discredit him.

He can play with those guys, which is a credit to him because many guys can't play with talent. I mean David Perron was on Crosby's line and produced like he was on a 3rd line, but is way more productive on an actual 3rd line. Hockey is strange like that.

I've gotta agree with you on this one. As a Ducks fan who watched him closely, he's definitely not worth $4M. I loved having patty, and he's fun to watch. And while he is a total workhorse out there, he really doesn't have the talent to warrant that money. I could be wrong, but I'd guess the moment he (hypothetically) joins STL his point production dips drastically and they'll be looking for a solution while he still has 3-4 years left on that contract you gave him.

On the open market, I'm not sure what Maroon will make. If he was open to any team, I think he might be able to fetch a $5M - $5.5M contract. 27 goal scorers in their late twenties don't come cheap. Patrick Eaves signed for less after a great season but he is almost 4 years older I think. Not sure I'd compare Maroon to his Duck days. He put in a lot of work last summer to become leaner and faster. I think I read somewhere that is his plan again this summer. He is motivated and if he puts in another good season scoring in the 25-30goal range he will definitely get $5 plus, if he wants to. Now, if he wants to give STL a hometown discount, I think $4M will represent that. Is that worth it for STL? Not sure. I think if he dropped below $4M to around $3.5M any team would be insane not to do it.

Just spit-balling here, but I think his goal-age comparisons are Hoffman, Wheeler, Palmieri, Nick Foligno, Ladd, and Lucic, he outscored them last season and they're mostly in the $4.5M to $6M range.
