Flames fans on capfriendly try not over expect what they’re getting for Noah Hanifin challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)

Yes because a mid D-man 1st,2nd & 3rd is worth a Top LD with an extension?, Also the team still sucks LMAO

I’m far from a Flames fan 😅, but I don’t see what any team should just help out Tampa by gifting them players

idk about "we back", the islanders were terrible yesterday and the devils are in a slump right now. The next upcoming games are pretty easy though so we should win those aswell, no real challenging teams left before the TDL.

how much are you expecting hanifin to get? H. Lindholm and Chychrun got a 1st and 2 2nds. It should be around the same for Hanifin

Hanifin should debatably get even more. He’s more reliable, better defensively and doesn’t have the injury history Chychrun does and he’s playing and producing significantly better than Hampus was when he got Traded

This proposal is nowhere near what Hanifin could fetch and there’s no way he’s signing for $6mil/yr given the season he’s having. His value continues to improve & grow game by game

yeah it would probably be one of gauthier, howard, or huuhtanen instead of the 2026 1st but the value isnt that far off. Some teams may value that 2026 1st more than a competitive teams 1st this year, especially if its unprotected.

a players value can only grow marginally game by game, I dont think he will get that much more than either of them especially considering H. Lindholm had a cap dump going back the other way too. I think the most he gets is 2 1sts but I could be wrong. Also there were reports that he was asking for 7.5 in calgary which = 6.5 in tampa. Then there were rumors that he changed it to 8mil AAV in calgary but that was never officially reported and all we know is that now he wants to play in the states

He will and being on a HOT Scoring Streak, like scoring 2 goals in one game taking his season total from 9 to 11 right before the TDL makes him turn even more GM’s heads

I get the Florida tax benefits, but that still doesn’t mean he’ll accept anything less than $7mil/yr, especially if he only gets 7 yrs of term when he could otherwise likely fetch $8mil x 7yrs via Free Agency if he wanted after the season he’s having and given the # of Teams interested in his services

why does it matter what the number on cap friendly is if he is getting the same if not more in post tax income? I dont disagree that there would probably be a team willing to pay more than tampa in FA but reports are that he wants to play there apparently and that 6.5 number would be equivalent to what he was asking for in calgary

Tampa needs to add one of Duke, Huhtanen, Thompson, Schmidt, Goncalves to the 1st, 2nd, 2nd/3rd, and one of Perbix or Lilleberg most likely. I wouldn't include Howard and probabaly not Gauthier, as if it's true that Tampa is his top or preferred.destination, quite a few teams aren't going to overload an offer for a rental. Even so, if Tampa wants him at the deadline, imo it will take the '26 1st,.either 2 2nds or a.2nd and a 3rd, a young roster dman(probabaly either Perbix or Lilleberg), and a solid prospect such as one of the.above. Based on both.the H. Lindholm and Chychrun returns, that package from Tampa is.competitive overall. Whether it's the offer that gets Hanifin is debatable, but that's as much as I would do from Tampa.

Because unless he negotiates a full NMC or 28 Team NTC, he could eventually be shipped to a higher taxed state and there’s no guarantees the tax rate will stay the same over the next 7-8 years either

The difference in taxes between CGY and FLA/TBL on $7.5mil is $500k btw, not $1mil as you’re suggesting, so it’d have to be $7mil to be equivalent and Hanifin may want even more now given the season he’s having

I wouldn’t pay much attention to “online reports”. The majority are all bs and CGY could be putting that rumor out themselves to get a better price from BOS, FLA, NJD, NYR, DAL, TOR and whoever else might be interested in Trading for him at this years TDL

I imagine he would get a NMC and florida will be a no income tax state for the forseeable future, it wouldnt change unless the federal income tax rates change which he has said he wants to go to an American team regardless so that doesnt really matter.

Is it really only $500k? I dont know alberta tax laws for obvious reasons so I just put his salary into a income tax calculator for alberta and the post income tax difference came out to a little over a million.

I would think Hanifin saying tampa is his preferred destination would hurt his trade value as teams might not be able to resign him but that report came from seravalli so I will give the benefit of the doubt and say its false, although EF said that he prefers to go to the states which would take out some bidders and slightly hurt his trade value not improve it

Rentals go for premiums all the time. Giroux, Chiarot, Orlov and so on and so on. GM’s know their needs and pay a premium regardless of they think it’ll help them win this years Stanley Cup. Look at what TBL paid for Tanner Jeannot for heavens sake

The Brandon Hagel return is more in line with Hanifin’s Trade value with an extension AFAIC

Here is the Tax Site I found and used for NHL Players: Gavin Group NHL Tax Calculator

jeannot and hagel werent rentals but yes I am not saying he wont get a lot even if he was a rental I am just saying he will get more if a team thinks they can resign him.

Also that tax site is doing things a bit differently than the topic we are discussing because it is assuming that Hanifin would be making 7.5 in both Calgary and Tampa and showing the difference but in actuality he would be making 6.5 in tampa so he would be getting taxed on less and it would actually come out to a little over a million dollars worth of difference once you calculate the take home pay
