I don't think they do a thing at the deadline that's not a substantial upgrade.

As much as I think Merzlikins is overvalued, I can't imagine that gets it done.

I originally had it at a 2nd, trying to steal one here.

I only did Sturm for Fabbri and a pick at the deadline. That gives us an actual fourth line centre and allows Fischer to play the wing. Fabbri is wasted talent on the fourth line. Also this move helps shed a bit of cap for the offseason, which you can see is tiiiiiight.

I don’t think the jackets move on from Elvis yet until they have a sure fire goalie ready to take over as a starter. Elvis has been much better than Husso despite playing behind a much worse defense. Despite his antics I would rather just keep Elvis at this point if they are only getting a third and Husso

Understandable, I originally had it at a 2nd but trying to sneak a good deal in there.

Fabbri is also playing a lot of center, especially on the PP. Forget last night that was Chicago's Stanley Cup, I don't do a thing to this team unless its a clear upgrade.

If you bump it to a 2nd, I think we'd have to take it. It all just depends on where Columbus thinks we're at. If we're looking at another year of rebuilding/inching forward in the standings, yes, grab the pick and take the chance on the cheaper goalie with less term. If we think Greaves or Tarasov are ready to bee the full-time starter and Husso is the veteran backup/1B, yes, grab the pick and take the chance. If the team and FO think it's a year to push for the playoffs, you hold onto Elvis as the clear starter. All 3 seem probable at the moment.

Personally, I'd take it. I view next year as another building year/TDL seller year. Let Greaves and Tarasov duke it out for the long-term starter (or Ivanov when he's ready to come over), let the kids mature some more, let Mateychuk get in the system, sell Kuraly/Provorov/Danforth/Boqvist?/Husso? at the deadline, and do a full-scale playoff push in 2025-26.

Caps really don't need to do that. Malenstyn fits the timeline in Washington and has been really good this year

Lol at all these posts thinking a rebuilding team is going to pay picks for serviceable defenseman. It's the other way around. Teams will pay us to take there defenseman with term remaining. Don't keep getting it all twisted

Caps pass. Malenstyn looks like a great young, speedy, physical 4th liner/high end PKr that will be cheap for years. 3rd and a AHLr probably won't make them want to move him.

Yeah, that's not really worth it to us at that point. Make it that 2nd and it's fine.

Ill disagree with the other Jackets folks and id take this deal. Although i am for sure biased cause i just dont want Elvis on the team anymore, im tired of his attitude. Getting a pick back and not having to retain salary is enough for me. Please take him
