Team: 2023-24 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 26, 2024
Published: Feb. 26, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This Blues team is all out of wack... one minute they look like a legit playoff team and the next it's like a JV team up against a varsity team. Get rid of any pending UFA even for picks. Shed a d-man contract somehow (Faulk seems most likely) and target some younger guys around the league looking for a change of scenery

Other names I would like to target:
Kakko
Broberg
Kaliyev
Dellandrea (unlikely)
Lundell (offseason possibly)

Edited: Buch trade was too much. Adjusted

Still open to feedback and adjustments

Probably an overpay? You would be lucky to get half of that. Maybe Berggren, Fabbri and a 1st

Unless you make Florida an offer that's utterly ridiculous forget Lundell.
TB does not really need the retention so make that a 25 3rd

Adjusted this trade. Removed ASP and Fabbri, added a 2nd with conditions as well as retention. I still feel like Blues could get more (especially with retention) since they don't HAVE to trade Buch this year unless it's an offer that blows them away.

Appreciate the feedback as always. Tough to tell true values on this site since everyone has their own outrageous opinions

Noted. And I doubt they give up Lundell but they're going to have an interesting offseason with so many FA to sign... could be a good time to at least check in on availability of some guys

You guys are becoming worse than leafs fans. Stop sending us Saad. Him being from Pittsburgh means nothing and we don't need another aging winger on a not-great contract. Dubas clearly said, plain as day, he wants to make this team younger. Please guys, stop.

Comparing to Leafs fans is quite insulting. But noted. Just see Saad to Pitt so often so figured why not. Can really just be anywhere. Just frees up a spot for someone else

Wallinder most likely would have to be included. Blues would need a solid defensive prospect coming back. What about ASP instead? Or who else is an A caliber defense prospect?

My man you would not get Pellikka for Buch 1:1 lol. Prospects are overpriced.
Take a 2nd or something, just not Wally.

You see it a lot because a lot of Blues fans keep doing it lol. I know some Pens fans do, but it's mainly been Blues fans.

Overvaluing ASP I see

And I'd say its a 60/40 split. Especially the whole Smith/Saad swap. I get it but at the same time I don't.

Not overvaluing Pellikka, just recognizing that top prospects scarcely are traded. Hence why I said "prospects are overpriced."

Seeing as you think Buch could up to two 1sts, a young middle-6 guy, and an A+ prospect; perhaps you're overpricing Buch?
Wouldn't give more than '24 1st + a 2nd + Berggren.

The current asking price minimum is two 1sts for Buch. Contending teams get him for two playoff runs so can easily expect a package greater than what Lindholm got.

A first, B+/A- Minimum defensive prospect, and potentially cap player is a minimum for him.

Point per game player for 2 cup runs at under 3 million. That is more than deserving of a VERY hefty asking price

Then take we'll bounce around a 1st, Berggren, and Wallinder.
Like I said, I'd rather keep Wallinder and replace him with a 2nd -- or maybe even two 2nds.
Pellikka to Wallinder isn't as lateral as you may think it is, tho.

I agree it's a drastic difference to ASP. If it were ASP instead of Wallinder, package would be a whole lot different anyway. Wouldn't just be a player swap

Current trade is Berggren, Wallinder, 1st, and 2nd with conditions. Could even make that a 3rd with conditions to become a 2nd since 2 firsts seems unlikely unless there are numerous teams and it drives the offer up big time

As said, Prospect prices are always higher than their true value; GMs like their guys.
I would be a lot more open to the latter proposal if you guys ate some filler contracts like Holl and Määtta.

Adjusted the trade to be the 3rd with conditions rather than the 2nd. Be curious to see what a return for Buch will look like... just ready for these next 2 weeks to be over with already

Me too.
Detroit, if they get a top guy like Buch, are gonna need to figure out something with the cap space.

With Buch half retained, I think they'll be fine. May need a small roster piece heading out. Personally (others probably wouldn't) I wouldn't mind Fabbri coming back. Wish he never had those injury troubles at the start of his career. Really had high hopes for him

I'm talking about beyond this year. Obviously the retention helps, but if they go for a guy on 1 year left and is gonna command a hefty extension -- red wings are bound to lose almost $20M in the off season between Raymond, Seider, and the hypothetical top-6 winger.

Would be interesting. I'm hoping the cap keeps going up quite a bit, which could help sign some of those guys as well. Fabbri with just the one year won't help much in the longer run unfortunately. That Holl contract just doesn't look the greatest.. That and Chariot. May have been panic moves
