If you’re not accounting for cap space, then the trades are useless

From the rangers you’re probably getting Tkachuk value and probably more picks than roster players

Mika has to go back to Vancouver in any EP40 trade

I’d definitely accept that for Columbus. In fact, I’d discuss pretty much any piece—including the 24 first unprotected—except Jiricek, Fantilli, and Voronkov. That’s contingent on the issues between Pat Brisson and the CBJ front office going away with Jarmo, and Pettersson’s willingness to sign longterm to a team surrounded by Gaudreau, Laine, Fantilli upfront. Which is a massive if.

i think maybe marner, rantanen, JEEK, foresberg, robert thomas, suzuki, or B. Tkachuk would be my targets. obviously, a lot of those teams would be very reluctant to make a deal trading away one of their stars so im not saying its a for sure thing to get one but it would be my first choice of move

As a Caps fan if the 2024 1st isn't a lottery winner I'd do it.

Seconding this. But also want to be clear that I don't think Vancouver should move him, he's probably just playing hardball to maximize his contract. I can't imagine he actually wants out.

Absolutely. The best place for him is Vancouver. Especially through this year. He’s an RFA this summer. They have no reason to move him til after the season, nor should they.

              But…

I’d definitely accept that for Columbus. In fact, I’d discuss pretty much any piece—including the 24 first unprotected—except Jiricek, Fantilli, and Voronkov. That’s contingent on the issues between Pat Brisson and the CBJ front office going away with Jarmo, and Pettersson’s willingness to sign longterm to a team surrounded by Gaudreau, Laine, Fantilli upfront. Which is a massive if.

Yeah, I'd presume that any trade would be predicated on contract extension negotiations before assets change hands.

Det says yes as long as both picks are top 10 protected, EP signs a reasonable extension and Canucks take back 1 or 2 contracts, like fabbri and holl/maata to counter the EP salary
