You’d have to really make it worth it for Toronto to move Jones. Nothing less than a 3rd would even be considered. Even then it’s a tough move for them to make right now

I think it will take a 5th. Time will tell. There is a chance Jones get's waived around or after the deadline as well. I strongly doubt he gets a 3rd though. 5th to 7th - SMALL chance at a waiver claim also. Leafs may keep 3 goalies if they don't need the cap after the deadline though.

    100%.

.907sv% for almost league minimum.. & between Woll’s fragile injury history and Samsonov’s inconsistency, Jones is actually an important piece to the team. It’s why they won’t put him on waivers right now. Add on to the fact that Colorado is desperate for a backup goalie to take some rest for Georgiev and Toronto really has no reason to move him. Either overpay or look elsewhere

He won’t be waived. Too much question marks in net for Toronto to risk losing him.
The idea of a 3rd is because a team is going to have to overpay to get him. Toronto has no reason at all to move him at all and he’s actually a key depth piece. A 5th doesn’t do anything for the team. At least a 3rd can still be a decent player

Listening to Brad Tre speak today, it sounds like they will keep 3 "for now" and they will decide on that later. So I am sure they will consider moving Jones for a pick. But based on the talk, I wouldn't be surprised if they sent him down (and couldn't get a pick), if they needed the cap. But time will tell. I think a 3rd is super generous, I just don't think it's likely, but who knows!

i like these. the avs could use a shutdown defenseman like edmunson.
don't know about jones though. his value might honestly be higher than that, and I also feel like there are better options to explore first

Leafs have absolutely no reason to move him. You’d have to give them a good reason to.. what does a 5th do? Absolutely nothing. It’s a weak draft this year so the player is likely nothing special. You can’t use it as a significant piece in another deal to get a defender. So what good does it do? They’re not gonna trade him just to trade him. If Woll gets hurt again then they’d be left with Samsonov and Hildeby and they’ve shown they’re not comfortable with either guy. So why get a 5th for him?
At least a 3rd has a shot at being a decent player or being used in another deal. But in all likelihood he’s not moved cause he’s too important to the roster right now. & chances of him being waived are slim to none. If they were going to do that, they wouldn’t have sent down Robertson and just sent Jones down but they didn’t cause they can’t afford to lose him.

They only trade him, if they think they will need his cap space on the upgrade they need on D. If they need his cap space, it's quite clear Jones won't clear waivers if we try again. So it's better to get a 5th than for him to be taken for free on waivers. There is a chance we run 3 goalies all year though. Time will tell. It's not clear yet (even to management) what is going to happen with Jones. All options are open right now.

It doesn’t matter what you “had him going for”. You don’t make the decisions for the Leafs - nor do I. But if you look at the reality of the situation, Jones is incredibly valuable to the Leafs so why would they move him for something that doesn’t help them in anyway?

Caps accept here I imagine. Maybe there's a larger deal to be made with DC involving Lindgren? Stat line was phenomenal until January when his defense decided to do their best Northern Virginia house impression and blew up completely, is still around Jones' line right now, and I think he could thrive in a better team like Colorado.

    Cap space

LOL.. might be the funniest thing I’ve read in awhile. Jones makes $875K against the cap.. if Toronto needs that cap space that much they can move Giordano to LTIR and keep Robertson in the minors and there’s $1.5M in cap space. Nice try though.

They have cap space and they’re going to be creative to get another guy. They’re gonna have to be to get a guy regardless of Jones’ cap or not. They have absolutely no reason to move him unless they have another goalie coming back. Jones is their insurance in net. They have no one behind him for that job. You can’t throw it away for a 5th round pick when you’re trying to win a cup
