Your concept is definitely worth considering in a vacuum. However, I don't think Yzerman touches Krug, and I do think you're being a little extra generous here. I wonder why nobody ever tries Faulk to DET trades. That makes more sense, somebody to share some tough minutes with Seider so he doesn't have to do all of them.

We would need a similar contract going out, can't afford the cap next season. I'm not opposed to it but it didn't make alot of sense to ship out high end pieces yet. Also his age and term left might not be ideal for our future.

Isn't Finley a decent prospect for Tampa? If so that seems a bit rich for Scandella, think he's worth a 3rd at most with or without retention.

A lot going on in that Wings trade, cant see anyone touching Krug until he has two years left maybe and by then he's probably on LTIR anyway.

Tampa Bay probably declines. Tampa Bay counters w/ a 4th for Scandella half retained.

I don't think it would cost any high end piece, and I would not rule out a bit of retention. But yeah, his deal is probably a year too long.

I’m fine with that, but I don’t think the Blues D can be rebuilt without Krug leaving. Maybe I’m just bitter because letting Petro walk and signing Krug is the worst thing to happen to the franchise in a long time

No argument from me. I've been weighing a buyout vs various retention figures and cost to dump. I mean, I'm flying kinda blind with that math, but there's a certain threshold I'm willing to bump up against before I say, screw it and prefer the buyout. In this one, we take enough cap burden back that I tilt over into buyout-land. Also, older Buium isn't super enticing, especially considering how they have 437 hot pants D prospects they're sittin' on over there.

I think you're right, I don't see Yzerman having any interest in Krug. Plus I don't see STL retaining on Krug for the next 4 seasons..

The retention on Krug for three full seasons (not four) is the least of the problems here. That amount is more than okay with me.

He's one of Tampa's best prospects, but that ain't saying much at all. Finley is slow as molasses, so the Blues would presumably have zero interest. Army insists on plus skaters in defense. Obviously, skating has not the issue with the Blues defense the last couple years.

Well in fairness, if Armstrong insisted on this, he wouldn’t have traded for Kevin Hayes. Jack Finley is a forward also if you are talking about dmen.

Yes, just Dmen. Can you think of the last minus skater we employed in defense? Or one Army traded for? We'd have to go back a ways.

Heh. This reminds me of the time somebody said almost the same exact thing and accidentally (I think) capitalized "Pole". I was like, whoa, do they have yet another monster sized Euro Dman prospect now??? tears of joy
