Hockey Trade

Created by: Celtics21
Team: 2023-24 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 4, 2024
Published: Mar. 4, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
During 32 thoughts, Friedman said the Bruins were interested in a hockey trade. Player for player rather than futures. Made me wonder what was possible. I had been thinking more futures for Ullmark. Still believe the Holtz/Vanacek deal makes more sense
Trades
1.
BOS
  1. Daws, Nico
  2. Nosek, Tomas
  3. Toffoli, Tyler
  4. 2024 3rd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Boston gets more scoring in Toffoli plus a young goaltender to battle it out with Bussi next year. Nosek gives the Bruins a 4th line center who can win a draw.
NJD
  1. Forbort, Derek
  2. Ullmark, Linus
Additional Details:
NJ gets its goalie without giving up their 2024 first or Holtz.
2.
BOS
  1. Johnson, Erik ($1,625,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Boston secures a bit of toughness in the backline option and injury security.
BUF
  1. 2026 3rd round pick (BOS)

So 3 NHL players for 2 NHL players doesn’t count?

Care to discuss the merits of the deal?

Interesting trade. I think the Devils keep Daws out of the three goalies but the framework looks good

I’d prefer to swap Schmid in for Daws but devils accept.

not as a hockey trade no - it's just a term designed for a 1 NHL player for 1 NHL player trade.

i kind of like the trade to be honest, as long as it comes with a corresponding move for a d man like you have here. that said i just don't think the bruins are considering moving ullmark this season.

I would like incremental value for Ullmark. Including Forbort for Daws, Nosek, and a 3rd does that.

Would you substitute Schmid and a 2025 2nd for Daws and a 2024 third?

Probably not. I view daws and Schmid as both worth about a 3rd, I just like Daws slightly more. If given the choice I'd prefer to keep daws, but would not add to the price to make that swap.

The Bruins likely struggle to re-sign Toffoli and they let Nosek walk because they wanted to go a different direction. Going into next season the Bruins could have moved Ullmark and all they'll have to show for it is a 3rd round pick and an AHL level goalie. Seems like a pretty bad deal for Boston considering Toffoli and Nosek aren't going to put them over the top.

If Sweeney is willing to make a roster player for roster player type deal, I think this is where it plays out.

My immediate thought when I heard Friedman say it was Ullmark/DeBrusk/Beecher for Dubois/Talbott.

I could see them sign Toffoli long term

It's certainly fair. Would be some haggling from both sides on the minor aspects (retention on toff if needed, potential retention on ullmark, daws/schmid, nosek/bastian or something like that, forbort/gryz, etc) Obviously as a fan I want to see NJD get the best out of every part of that, but they aren't things I'd care much about in terms of getting a deal over the finish line.

You're getting Toffoli just to lose him in few months. It's a waste. Johnson has been awful this year; I wouldn't trade for him let alone add a 3rd.

They have the cap room to keep him especially if Hanifin is off the market.

Another option is Vanacek/Holtz for Ullmark.

There's a risk he walks and we're left with nothing. I'd prefer not taking Vanecek.

Would you retain 50% on Ullmark for Holtz/Schmid? Would NJ?

Not much in that NJ retrun hat is of interest, Toffoli gonna walk July 1st, no interest in Nosek reunion, and Bussi is the backup, no need for more young goalie competition

If Ullmark is moved, it should be for young players/prospects/draft capital, not for pending UFAs

Even if they resign Toffoli, could do that without moving Ullmark

My anticipation is most players hit free agency even if traded for, so I get your point. I do think Tofolli brings something offensively to this team and if he’s open to a 3 year contract, I’d love for him to be here with the way he’s playing now.

My preference is a trade for Holtz because I believe any trade for Jersey’s first will be playoff protected.
